North Korea is a very complicated society to understand because they are so secretive. If I had a voice of advice that could be heard I would say stay away from a war with North Korea. Why get into a fight with one of the toughest and most unpredictable guys in the neighborhood.

Sure, we could win - but at what cost? The main advantage is that NK has no real friends.

As to "Why get into a fight...?" - sure, you're absolutely right. It takes a horrible combination of moron and bully to get into this kind of fight with NK.

The problem is...actually going all out. If we do? We nuke them from the Ohios as someone mentioned earlier. The war is effectively over in a day.

We will have issues with fallout, and mass causalities. We won't do this barring a significant escalation IE-NBC warfare on their part.

Far more likely is a conventional war. And that depends on alliances.

NOBODY is doubting that we WILL defeat North Korea and topple Kim's regime. The issue here is how many millions of people do we want to die in order to get there. Look folks, here's the reality: in order to take on North Korea we would need a massive air and naval force to be able to hit every single target at once to prevent them from launching a retaliatory strike on Seoul, Japan, Guam or Hawaii, etc. They would obviously know we're about to do something and they will strike first ... probably with a massive artillery barrage on Seoul and reducing a city of 10 million people into rubble. Yeah, we'll win in the end ... but who's going to rebuild Seoul? Who's going to accommodate the millions of refugees from the North? Who is going to help unify the Korea's and provide the money bring the North up to the infrastructure standards of the South? The war isn't the problem ... it's what comes after.

And the biggest question of all: does anyone really think that China is going to tolerate a pro-American, pro-Western unified Korea extending to the very edge of the Yalu? I have news for those people ....

Good. So long as the entire population is sitting in underground tunnels, they cannot manufacture war materiel, which will shorten the war considerably.

The US would gain air superiority in less than 72 hours and destroy the bulk of North Korean military supplies, limiting the war to less than 30 days.

1] Initiate an air campaign to achieve air superiority, while simultaneously attacking Command & Control targets and jamming communications, along with suppressing missile artillery batteries.

2] Land an amphibious assault group on the beaches west of Pyongyang. Land another amphibious assault group on the beaches to the east of Pyongyang.

3] Move US troops forward to the DMZ to block movement of North Korean artillery assets.

4] Reinforce with the 7th Infantry Division.

5] Use B-52s to carpet bomb artillery, while using B-1B Lancers to attack both major highways to block
North Korean troop movements.

6] Hunt down and execute Kim

7] Occupy North Korea until North Koreans choose a form of government and hold elections.

Total time: 2-4 weeks for the ground conflict and 6-12 months to hold elections.

NK is not Iraq. Do you really think China is going to standby and watch their client state get blown to bits?

Do we have a precedent? Yes, I do...I believe it was called the Korean War.

An invasion of NK will have consequences we do not know.

In war chaos theory rules: round and round she goes and where she stops nobody knows.

No one would win. Both sides of the Pacific would see 8 figure deaths. Both the US and East Asia would be completely devastated.

The problem with NK is that they are close to several other countries and they do have atomic bombs, which I am sure they would use.
So, one can't just start a war on NK because its neighbors would pay the price for that.

NK's military is big, but not very advanced. A war would be over within a couple of days. But not without leaving big problems for SK most of all, maybe even Japan.

After all, the NKns are crazy and totally brainwashed. Even the normal population seems to follow some bizarre leader cult. It is just so absurd to listen to what those people say in interviews and on TV. Their view of the world and their role in it seems seriously distorted.

That's why I don't think a war is the solution. One has to deal with them like with children, as funny as it might sound.

Unfortunately, it is no secret that when governments are in trouble, they tend to seek wars and such international adventures. I hope Trump won't make that mistake that so many have made before him. He should stick to his original plan and maybe even visit NK or invite Kim over for a chat.
