I think a better solution is people not getting news from social media. Stick to newspapers and more conventional media. They're usually better sourced and more reliable, as well as usually offering at least some variety in terms of point of view. Consider this; conservatives have written for the New York Times. I don't believe I've ever seen a particularly liberal viewpoint on Breibart.
The issue of fake news is serious and needs to be addressed. As of now, too few of us seem able to agree on what even is fake news. For many, it's just news they don't like, and this is a problem more serious than anything I can think of. Rather it's debt, terrorism, or environmental disaster that attempts to destroy our society, it won't matter. If we can't even agree on simple truths, we don't have a society; period. There will be nothing to destroy.

The conventional media outlets are the worst paid trolls of all.
If the source for the story is "individuals with inside knowledge of the situation", it's probably fake news.
Certain dinosaur media outlets make an irritating habit of citing these unknown people who may or may not actually exist.
In fact, Russia-gate wouldn't even exist were it not for anonymous sources.
That sort of reporting is no better than that of the National Inquirer, so why bother?
