However, the realist in me knows that's not possible.
So, I'd advocate a flat tax.
10% federal and up to but not more than 5% state (individual States can decide).
No deductions.
No exceptions.
Everyone pays the same % across the board.
I'll sign up for that IF all housing codes and restrictions are eliminated. If I have to pay tax on my first dollar of income, I gotta cut my housing expense WAY down because housing consumes half my income.
Everybody a flat rate, no deductions. 10% 15%.... but that needs to cover STATE AND FEDERAL.
And when I say everyone, I mean anyone collecting ANY type of pension, unemployment or even government benefits...... if everyone put back into the system the everyone has some skin in the game.
And yes when I am on summer school break and collecting unemployment I do the voluntary 10% deduction.

First problem: Define "income"?
Same % for all, How is that fair?
Flat tax, 10% for everyone. No fathomable reason why the government needs almost 1/3 of my income to run a multi-trillion debt. Its unacceptable and irresponsible.
Never thought of that. Very interesting. It's going to make starting new companies a challenge, of course. Makes the stock market kind of irrelevant and kills off the lottery as a source of money for the government.

The argument is a flat tax of any percentage weighs more heavily on the lower income earners. The rich are different = they don't care about a tax like that.

I know what the argument is, I happen to disagree with it. 10% for all.
