For something to become a legal drug/medical equipment in this country, it must be proven to work. In the case of medications, it must be proven safe and effective. "Medical" marijuana will actually struggle on one of the basic requirements for medications and that is standardized dosing. Every dose must have the same (within a margin of error) active ingredient. The medication, depending on what disease state, must be shown to be effective versus placebo or non-inferior to the standard of care. No medication is given a free pass. All medications since the early 1960s, be they prescription or over the counter, has had to undergo the three phases of testing. FDA is not adverse to approving cannabinoids as long as they meet the requirements.
Medical MJ is a joke. Just legalize it all. I drove past a place the other day that said "Weed referrals by Dr. Reefer" no joke. ha ha MM is just a legal way to smoke pot anyway. Who doesn't know this??
Can't be worse than all the pain med addicts.
It has very limited medicinal value, and the value it does have has already been used to make medications. The difference is that those medications don't get you high so the drug addicts don't want them.
It has been proven that MJ helps with several different conditions, from nausea, due to chemo, to epilepsy. Only the big pharms really oppose it. The latest poll said that 61% of Americans think it should be legal. I have been told that it would probably help with my arthritis pain, but I won't try it as long as it is illegal in my state. My system can't tolerate opioids, so I just put up with the pain which really limits my activities.

According to a friend who takes marinol, it does not provide the same level of relief as MJ does.

Sorry about your arthritis pain. Have you tried acupuncture? Works good.
Polls can be misleading. It depends on the target audience for the poll.
I vote "Not Yet." I have no issue with adults getting high, but I have a concern about them driving while buzzed. I would not feel comfortable with drivers in the next lane or in front of me stoned to their gourdes, even if the most likely effect would have them driving slow in the fast lane. Until we can come up with a way to test people who are "driving while stoned," I'm on the fence about this one.
