It's really irrelevant also. I don't care where you stand on things I don't care about. I care about where you stand on the things I do. I will not vote for someone I disagree with just so I can "win".
It is relevant to the discussion, as that seems to be what he is talking about. the fact that many progressives seem to be arguing for a litmus test to be a candidate.
I think my position there was "Tom Perez is a corporate jerk" or something along those lines.

I suppose if you consider having principles a litmus test. Don't lie to me really isn't what is being discussed though. Dean is saying "it doesn't matter what the candidate believes, we have to win at any cost".
I think that's true for a large number which will lead to their ever increasing losses of power. I think there was a time that Republicans went through that but now they are a diversified "non-pure" party that rules the nation.
Truth is anyone who did not vote and could have voted is not a good citizen, not a good american and shows no respect to those who died to give them that right. voting is a duty like sitting on a jury, you may not like it but it has to be done.
I used to think like this. Once I really realized and admitted the political system has been hijacked for quite some time now, I don't think this way any more. I still voted, mostly because it takes very little effort--and that's just it. If we want our Republic back, it's going to take a lot more than voting. Even some liberals like Naomi Wolf get that:

No.
No, the litmus test was over being pro choice, you said it was dumb because you were pro life. That he was alienating good progressives or something along those lines.

I agree with him. I'm an independent but lean left on healthcare especially and I've always felt that there is a "whiny left" and a "hateful right" in both parties. They both are getting too much attention as of late and the voices of the sane Dems and Repubs are ignored.
I think he is correct about the base. It's not that different from the fervent base of Republicans, however. The base of the Democratic Party is becoming as inflexible as the base of the GOP.
Trump's Base /= GOP Base
Failure to understand this is failure to understand why Trump wins elections.
Howard Dean......"If you have principles, you suck, all you should care about is winning".
What a sad individual.
And, there you have it.
Howard Dean is correct. Many would rather have no pie than 7/8s of a pie.
