Why didn't that Andrew Carnegie go back to Scotland where he was born? Henry Ford's dad was born in Ireland, why was he allowed to come here and steal jobs from native-born Americans?
Immigrants in the early 1800's from the mother country have nothing to do with globalized immigrants today. Totally different conditions, origins and time. If for instance people from the Korean peninsula immigrated to Japan at some point, that means I'm entitled to emigrate to Japan and be considered a Japanese?
My husband is a physicist, I'm a software developer - both of us are the only ones on our teams who aren't H1Bs.
South/East Asian countries are doing something right. I went to a top university and schools for the gifted prior to that - and the all-American students were always greatly outnumbered by those from immigrant households.
I think the obvious answer is to ban literacy tests and basic skills tests for prospective teachers, as it is a civil rights issue that certain demographics aren't passing.
Then we can start lowering standards for students. Like basic algebra is too difficult and racist.
Going back to the OP, are you saying that is why immigrants are "wiping the floor with American students?"
What are you talking about, America (and Canada) was British homeland at the time. They weren't immigrants they were mainly born subjects/citizen British coethnics.
You don't consider the founding fathers immigrants just because they eventually colonized the territory? This is an argument I've never heard before, but ok, I'll run with it. So what about when it became America - certainly everyone other than the 2.5 million previous settlers and their native born children after that point was an immigrant. I assume the previous poster would lump those people into his description of "our ancestors."

If they were doing that right they would stay in their own countries!
Yeah but I guarantee you natural born American white kids are having a helluva lot more fun in life than foreigners
Doubt it.
Did they travel the world their entire childhood?
Have a SAHM?
Belong to a country club?
Play every sport?
Have private music and riding lessons?
Ski every winter?
Beach every summer (in places like Hawaii and Bali)?
Home-cooked meals three times a day?
Get a red convertible 5 speed mustang when they turned 16?
Have friends from all over the world?
No white kid had more fun than I did.
And the only reason I am making this semi-obnoxious post is because of the stupid stereotype you trot out to defend your lack of success...we are more "well-rounded" and "having more fun." That's pure b.s. and you know it. Find some other excuse.
The real sad part is the third generation. They start being as stupid and lazy as everyone else around them.

I had the same childhood (though sub the riding lessons for archery lessons - I was afraid of horses LOL), as did many Asians I grew up with.
And they still managed to succeed.
