If you add his delusions to his narcissism he is probably mostly afraid of himself. He will only give speeches to controlled audiences that already worship Him. He cannot tolerate any criticism that questions his certainty that he bases on, as he has said, his superior genes.
The Donald's greatest fear is Putin will call in the business loans and/or the "magic" tapes on file. The first will show He is broke and the second will show whatever it will show. Either will result in the Donald being excluded from his exalted political position and the second from his social class.
Barack Obama and the press was a disgusting love-fest. Can't blame Trump for not talking with the mainstream media the way they're treating and covering him.
He is afraid of being exposed into an environment where he cannot control the outcome. He puts other people in that position and he judges them from behind the curtain, putting them under enormous pressure he would not expose himself to.
I had a boss like that, he would deflect tough questions and put managers on the spot and then humiliate them with raging criticism afterward. They knew he was judging them and his closest people learned to hate him.

Trump is afraid of his own inadequacies, exactly why he feels compelled to make up phony phone calls praising himself.

May I add his fear of walking with a group of world leaders and not feeling "special".
Trump is such a loud-mouth bully always backed by the security his money afforded him. I bet if he was ever somewhere without security and was challenged to a fist fight by a regular guy, if he couldn't BS his way out of it, he would scream like a little girl!
So far not one person has given any reason except to cite CNN. And we know what that means.
His lack of press conferences speak for themselves.
No one needs CNN to point that out; unless perhaps it's you.
