This thread is just reinforcing the idea that most people can't separate thought and emotion. They think they're thinking, but they're feeling.
"Such and such should be this way"
Okay, what's your reasoning?
"We shouldn't allow that behavior"
Okay, but why?
"People have a right to participate and feel included"
Okay, but why?
"Well that's what the law says, and that's how it is here. If you don't like it, move"
Okay, but why?
Applying this type of inquiry specifically to the 'Sweet Cakes by Melissa' case:
You seem to be saying, if one chooses to open up a business in a particular State, one may not have to abide by the laws of that State.
If you open up a business, you must serve EVERYONE. If you don't want to serve the general public, here's a thought, don't open up your own business.
THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND HERE! If Christians are so upset about serving gays, what's gonna happen to these snowflakes when they get refused service from an American Muslim because they are unclean?
These debates are all quaint and nice until you think about a doctor refusing to save your life because they think you're a hateful, religious douchebag and it's against their religion to treat racist homophobes.
The fact is there are laws to protect people for a reason. No matter who you are and no matter whether or not you can pay, you will always get emergency treatment.
Does that make the doctor a slave?
Or do we have a social duty and contract to deal with the public in a certain professional way despite our personal feelings?
The CRA of 1964 discriminates against business owners in favor of consumers. They are forced to sell the fruits of their labor.
Slavery.
One group's rights are arbitrarily taken away to accommodate another group.
If you're speaking about slavery, you're right. One group's right to own people as property was taken away to accommodate those people formerly considered property.
What's your point?
