North Korea just tested a missile that can hit the US. They already have nuclear capability. The remaining steps for miniaturization and delivery will be resolved soon enough. It should be evident to everyone that sanctions won't stop them.
So we need to start reasoning as if NK already has or will imminently have this weapon. There are only two real choices: (1) engage diplomatically with them, respecting that they are a nuclear power, and relying on the deterrent effect of mutually assured destruction, or (2) engage militarily to prevent them from finalizing and fully institutionalizing this weapons system. The first one will give NK a lot of what they want and validate their strategy for future rogue dictators, likely further increasing nuclear weapons proliferation in other nations; the second will likely kill hundreds of thousands of people.
What doesn't help is the "head in the sand" approach I'm reading on here, similar to what conservatives advocate for global warming. This threat is not just going to go away.
Why not let global warming solve the problem. N K will be underwater soon.
And ask yourself this: who is likely on average to have better information?
A. US intelligence personnel, who have access to the best spy technology on Earth and do this professionally
or
B. Some hillbilly conservative yahoo on city-data?
This is a real threat.
How silly.
It has not been established WHAT info the USA has on NK's nuclear abilities. The argument is over whether WaPo has it. Even hillbillies, as you call them, can figure that out.
The USA 4 years to develop an atomic bomb, small enough to fit onto our largest bomber at the time. With that said, it was still a 22,000 pound monster. This with all of the industrial might of the USA and 100s of thousands working on it.
It took the USSR more than 6 years to do the same, and this with plans stolen from the USA.
So if North Korea has developed a deliverable atomic bomb as alleged by WaPo, then it's clear that it had to happen during the 8 years that Obama was handling foreign policy with NK.
This speaks for itself.

There's a lot of info out there on their recent tests. There are a lot of people who study North Korea and nuclear weapons technology for a living, and they're sounding the alarm.
I'm supposed to put more credibility in a Trump shill's denialism than them?
There's a lot of info out there on their recent tests..... .
Sure. But this isn't the question of the topic. Everyone knows they exploded a nuclear bomb of some sort deep in a cave.
WaPo claims they have made it small enough to be delivered to a remote target, presumably by missile. That claim is what we are talking about. There are NO TESTS out there that prove that.

There's no need for miniaturization. That's just something idiotic pundits yap about.

And that's all irrelevant.
Fat Man was "fat," because there was no pre-exising data on wave-form technology or wave-shaping technology, and because there was a limited number of types of plastic explosives available. Knowledge of wave-form and wave-shaping technology is essential in order to uniformly collapse the thin-shelled hollow sphere of plutonium into a solid mass and maintain that mass long enough to generate a sufficient number of cascading chain reactions.
You can find data on wave-form and wave-shaping technology here:
And at most university libraries and other places on the internet.
I would suggest that a 20-30 kt North Korean nuclear warhead is about 30" in diameter, 36" in length and weighs approximately 900 pounds, which would make it deliverable by North Korea's version of the SCUD missile.
