I agree MacArthur was right and should have prevailed. In the long run, if we had dropped nukes on China, that would have saved a lot of Chinese lives, because it would have gotten rid of Mao and thus there would have been no Great Leap Forward and no Cultural Revolution.

Certainly, Mao killed many more than Hitler. But we tend to overlook that.

Communism came about in China due to the poor revolting against those formerly in power. There was little chance that they could have had a meaningful democratic election in the chaos following years of war. At best they could have put together an authoritarian gov't controlled by other countries e.g Taiwan/Singapore/SKorea, which were basically "approved" capitalist dictatorships for decades following WWII.
