Communism came about in China due to the poor revolting against those formerly in power. There was little chance that they could have had a meaningful democratic election in the chaos following years of war. At best they could have put together an authoritarian gov't controlled by other countries e.g Taiwan/Singapore/SKorea, which were basically "approved" capitalist dictatorships for decades following WWII.
Same reason Communism got its start in Russia. Same reason Hitler came to power in Germany. We only went after Germany after they started trying to take over the whole of Europe. We only went after Japan after Pearl Harbor got hit.
Dropping nukes on China may have started an actual war with Russia as well.
And word is, the Soviet Union wasn't too fond of the western powers, especially the USA. And China is much closer to the USA's Pacific possessions than North Korea currently is.

Yah. We (the US) were mobilizing, putting the economy & workforce & military on a wartime footing. & we were providing more & more aid & materials to UK & allies. We didn't formally declare war on Nazi Germany - they beat us to the punch. Hitler figured that he'd get in good with Imperial Japan, & Germany declared war upon the US in solidarity with IJ. We returned the favor, of course, declaring war upon IJ & Germany.
