People of all persuasions will find an umbrella to stand under that they believe fits their "idea" the best, even the most egregious among us. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand? You might want to check under your particular umbrella.
One of the primary mantras of the Right is "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY". Personal responsibility is the trump card in life, to conservatives. Hence, the black condition of socioeconomic inferiority is something that blacks are PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR. Historical racism and oppression of blacks, hence, becomes EXCUSES. The kicker, though, is this. The only way that blacks can be personally responsible for the inferior socioeconomic condition is if the nature of blacks is inferior. This implicit inferiority is links up with white supremacist explicit beliefs.

Enough with this myth. We all know that democrats used to be the conservatives and republicans the radicals. This is basic US history and changed between the late 1800s and early 1900s. Pretending this is not case to make a point is disingenuous. Stop already.

I think it has something to do with personal responsibility - like a strong focus on education and avoiding out-of-wedlock births.

Conservatives who feel the need to remind present day UNITED STATES Democrats that the Democrats of the Civil War Era were the ones who fought for slaves, etc. is beyond ridiculous.
Completely different political environment. A Democrat in the south wasn't and isn't a Democrat of California, Vermont, Michigan.

Lots of minorities are racists too and could vote Democratic.
BUt let's just say -- a White Nationalist party is going to vote Republican in today's political climate. It just is that way. Doesn't mean it represents the party.

That is so juvenile. Yes.....the democrats used to be the political umbrella of white racist. Today the racist has moved under the republican umbrella. If Racist move to the Green Party then the Green Party will be the party and Racist and will be the umbrella. Why is this so difficult to understand? There are no permanent friends or permanent enemies......just permanent interest. Hence, those against blacks have shifted from party to party.....and hence blacks interest have shifted from party to party because the majority of blacks used to vote republican at one time.
This is also the reason why new immigrants of color, like those from India, and also other places, who have brought with them their own ignorant prejudices, find common cause with white racists and vote Republican. The Republican ideology is a magnet for racism and hate. Never mind that they themselves are subject to white racism, they will still vote Republican.
