Trump did not hide his racism before the election. For years, he had been a primary proponent of racist birtherism against Obama. So people knew what they were getting.
You can't say "I voted for Trump for other reasons, despite the fact that he was openly racist." You have to admit "Yes I voted for a racist, therefore I am willing to condone racism, and put a racist in the White House." That makes you complicit in his racism.
