After all, that's what this country is coming down to. Let the loonies on the left do whatever they want or else they'll start whining again about another social injustice. Using reason doesn't compute with them, and neither does respecting what anybody else wants.

America isn't JUST about them, and it's ignorant and arrogant to think that they have all the answers.
I'm siding with Trump on this one.

The monuments (all 873 of them) have been around for decades ....
all of a sudden they bad...oooh evil....I say nonsense, most people just walk by them
without even really looking at them. There are bigger fish to fry.

Jefferson and Washington were slave owners....just sayin'

I have said several times here it is not about the statues. This is just something new to join the bandwagon. It is funny how we are not talking about Russia anymore, that is because nothing is coming up. They have now moved on to get him with this new chapter. Trump is not perfect, but this opposition will not end. We should be uniting as a nation together to denounce racism. This taking down statues should not be the issue.

Britain has an Imperalistic past, we were involved in slavery, we did some questionable things and we are not going to pretend that we didn't by taking down statues or destroying reference to our past.

We have statues relating to numerous individuals with numerous views and who have acheived numerous things, our statues often stand near to people with opposing views, as should be the case in any democratic society. There is no one version of the past or history, and it's important to be open minded and to learn from history from people who have done both good and bad, indeed most peoples lives are a mixture of good and bad. There is no perfect human being, as the human race is very flawed or we wouldn't have wars in the first place, however sweeping inconvenient truths under the carpet is far worse than just admitting to your flaws and fallibility, as well as being reminded of them and learning from them.

Gandhi for instance now stands near Churchill, with Lincoln in the background.

Oh yeah they will never leave.

The moderates meanwhile have left the building.
I would say that the "ignorant" are those who want to remove vestiges of their own nation's history.

Exactly. All of these people crowing about "The Confederates were traitors to America!!!!" are full of it. They aren't going to stop at statues of Confederate leaders, they're going to want to remove statues of plenty of leaders of the U.S.of A as well. A statue of Roger Taney was just removed from Maryland's state house.

and the radical left does not realize they are as racist or even more so than the right. When are we going to stop this crap about tear down this, tear down that? We were with friends last night who, are conservatives but still think the confederate statues should go and I brought this very issue: when does it stop? The guy said I was being ridiculous, no one really is serious about tearing down Wash or Jefferson monuments.

Well, to the U.S. of A., anyway. But of course, the CSA did take up arms against the US, & fired on Ft. Sumter. If they hadn't fired, history might have been different. We'll never know.

Why was Taney's statue removed?

No, Europe does not want the US's loony leftists, after all, Europe still has statues and monuments to its kings and other leaders, who were quite opposite in every way to loony leftists in the US.

I told my son that those statures should remain in place and it's just an issue for the radical Left. One aspect of a statue of Lee and Co. is they convinced tens of thousands of young men to join their cause. They died for nothing. That's something to remember when some government tries to convince young people to join a failed cause like fighting in Afghanistan.
