Given the McCain and Fitzgerald are from the same squadron, I can see the squadron CO and some staff getting the axe. Given the other incidents, maybe even the 7th fleet admiral.
Funny place for a destroyer to be when it's supposed to be protecting our borders. Probably got lost or something.
The destroyer is forward deployed out of Japan. Part of the US defense strategy is to forward deploy ships.

The Coast Guard and Navy do two separate things, the only thing in common is they operate on the water. To disband the Coast Guard and have the Navy take its functions would not reduce costs, it would just cause the Navy to develop an entire structure to mimic what the Coast Guard does.
To, be honest I don't believe Trump's received the same amount of opposition that Obama did. Did Congress vow to obstruct Trump's every move before he even took office as it did with Obama? And Trump himself is responsible for a good bit of the criticism he receives by making grandiose promises not even within his powers like immediately repealing the ACA and replacing it with something far better. And why should any adult respond to another so needy for attention he makes up phone calls in praise of himself with anything but scorn?
Think what you want, you are entitled to your own opinion. What I'm seeing is more effort from both sides trying to fight Trump then trying to work with him. That energy isn't doing a damn thing for any of us. It isn't now , or then when Obama was in office.
Stuxnet was used to sabotage an Iranian nuclear facility. The
virus was able to do the damage in the background and not display anything that could be detected by the
technicians who were watching their monitors. Current hacking capabilities are even more sophisticated now.
In 1952 the DOD tested a technology that could saturate any radar screen with fake blips to make the enemy think they are being attacked.
If they could do all this back then, it's very possible that they now have technologies that can mess with the ship's navigation system to fool the radar operators into thinking they are going in a direction they are not.
LOL, this one like the other will be proven to be human error... another phrase for incompetence

I don't think the Coast Guards job is protecting our borders. They don't have the weaponry for one thing. That's the Constitutional job of our military.
Bring the troops home to protect our borders would be a huge savings. You could increase defense spending and get rid of all the military spending and still save a ton.

Trump may have deluded himself into thinking his $$$ changes the ways of the world but for many things that just isn't true. He's picking what he's planted as every mortal eventually does, he creates his own problems then cries over them.
China is unhappy with this US navy ship operating in area. My take is: they sabotaged the US ship. It's a
common cold war tactic to ram the enemy's ship. Maybe the Chinese control the people who operate the
other ship.

This! If the bridge didn't see a 700' tanker at less than 20 kts heading for them, how in hell are they going to react when a cruise missile going 400- 500 mph is zeroing in on them? We're telegraphing a scary vulnerability to our adversaries.
