There are training programs for people collecting disability and SSI. There are sometimes programs for people on unemployment. There are tax breaks for companies hiring people collecting SSI or disability.
The training programs are designed for the benefit of employers and government, not for the benefit of people collecting disability and SSI. If a recipient wants to learn IT networking or web design and the training program offers secretarial skills, that doesn't work for the disability or SSI recipient.
You can't get rid of welfare until you find a way to get people employable and create more jobs. Those need to be in place before you start limiting welfare (rather than doing away with it).
I agree that welfare keeps people enslaved - but it should be available for short term periods for people who need to get on their feet.
They can all become tech workers. Even the ones with 85 IQs! Its true! I read it here. They just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
All welfare does is keep people dependent on the government and stuck in a cycle of poverty. They give up on themselves and end up believing some slick talking community organizer will help them. The only welfare should be a one way ticket to some 3rd world country.
Wow, the koolaide must have kicked in hard yesterday, hopefully they have reduced the dosage for today.

Sorry but no one on welfare is getting rich. Most people on a program do not want to be. The programs are there to help during a tough period.

The problem is that in too many cases they hurt more than they help. Again, these programs should include the requirement of job and life skills training for those with the ability to work. I haven't seen anyone espouse taking away assistance for those who can't work.
The argument against welfare reform seems to be "there will always be poverty.". Which is true. We will always have people who are poor. The problem is we have generations of the same family who are poor, mainly because they haven't been taught how not to be. This is why we need to include a basic education in the welfare system. So that those on welfare have the opportunity to break the cycle.

I actually agree with that thought and have suggested something along those lines here before, guess who was totally against the idea, Conservatives. Few if any were willing to actually spend money on a program to save money in the long run, seems like many prefer bitching about a problem to actually doing something to resolve it.

It's called compromise. Neither side is good at it anymore. For that matter, the very word seems to be anathema in politics. Liberals refuse to limit welfare, conservatives refuse to expand it. If both sides of the aisle would get their collective craniums out of their anal orifices and actually work together on these things, something might be accomplished. Wishful thinking, I know.

You are either a RINO or a DINO with no principles.
You must be purged!
