IMHO, Smart people date and get married well before they have hardened their political opinions to this type of degree.
I wouldn't have wanted to date a hick, for example (I lived in WV and TN for a time).
I'd say that class, intelligence, empathy, ability to keep a family together, etc. would be the higher measure. Tendency to swear, drink or drug to excess would be a turn-off, but intelligence and self-confidence are turn ons.
The new trend of very late marriage may be asking for trouble.
There is more to marriage than simply entering into it at the "correct" time in one's life.

You'd be surprised.....I would suggest (in my experience) that those who marry after most of their habits are set in stone are less likely to get along. This is in addition to the biological problems if they desire a family of any size.
Maybe it's just my experience. My parents married young (still together) and so did I (45+ years)....
There are exceptions to every rule. But I think the idea of "everything has to be right" before marriage is inviting problems.
Choices must be made in this life. I know people who are going to be 75 years old when they attend the high school graduation of their latest child.
I opine that we are evolved to mate at a relatively younger age. This is why problems with older men and women abound (in pregnancy). Of course, we can fool mother nature but 60 is NOT the new 40 no matter what you do.
I am a pretty open minded guy, and in the past it hasn't been much of a problem. To me, moral issues and religious issues can be a bigger problem in a relationship than political ones. There are very few political purists (despite the impression one can get reading this forum) and two people usually find common ground on some things and agree to disagree on others.
Okay, I am embarrassed to admit it, but that kinda made me giggle a little.
Sicko.
Oh ...
... was that a double entendre ?
