I predicted two years and he would declare that he had kept all of his promises, and so leave the White House in the hands of Mike Pence.
Mr. Trump has, as he has said, found that being President is quite different from being the CEO of Trump Enterprises. He has expressed frustration with the job, with working with Congress, and of being subjected to press (and legal) scrutiny.
I had expressed some fear (again, prior to the election) of Mr. Trump materially harming the "Trump Brand", which he obviously wants to pass down to his children and grandchildren more or less intact. Yet, even Mr. Trump must realize that he is hurting his brand (witness, at the least, the number of organizations that have been cancelling events at his country club in Florida).
There had been some thought, prior to the election, that Mr. Trump did not seriously think that he would win; that he wanted to be more of a power broker at the convention. To the surprise of most (including himself), he did win.
I do not think that Mr. Trump is an utter fool. He studies polls, he watches the news, and he realizes that the tide has turned against him. Heck, he must have paused when he saw the recent statement by Senator Corker, a man that was, previously, firmly in Trump's corner.
I can't, however, imagine that he would resign any time soon. However, it would be wise to at least start considering how he would exit the stage gracefully.
Mr. Trump would not like to be like that famous Shakespeare stage direction: "Exit left, pursued by a bear".
