it's almost like not having a functioning State Department and instead running foreign policy out of an ill suited and understaffed White House can cause problems? Somebody quick google soft power and send the screen shot to poor Jared.

Yes, lets not forget them.

White House adviser Jared Kushner and visiting U.S. officials have been snubbed by the Foreign Ministry in Cairo in apparent protest over a U.S. cut in aid to Egypt.
The ministry says the country’s top diplomat, Sameh Shoukry, cancelled his meeting with Kushner and the others, which had been scheduled for later on Wednesday. The U.S. delegation is in Cairo as part of a Mideast tour to press Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.
Interesting timing on cutting aid to Egypt when Jared was heading over there...
The reason for the cut (or delay) in aid was apparently to make a point to President el Sissi about the US Concern about Human Rights in Egypt. The Trump administration on Tuesday cut nearly $100 million in military and economic aid to Egypt and delayed almost $200 million more in military financing, citing Egypt’s poor human rights record and its crackdown on civic and other non-governmental groups.
Of course the "SNUB" did not take place, but we wouldn't want Facts to get in the way of a good Anti-Trump story. Politico, Washington Post and others were forced to correct their stories after the Associated Press reported the meeting between Jared Kushner, President el-Sissi and the Egyptian Foreign Minister today.
It's a Tap Dance when dealing with Foreign Powers - no accident that the move to cut/delay essential Aid money to Egypt came at this time. President Trump prefers to deal from a position of strength and he clearly cares about Human Rights abuses. That's a bit different from air-lifting pallets of Millions of US dollars to Iran in appeasement. Refreshing.
Isn't it time the US learns there are many words for those who are paid 'friends', none of which are very complimentary?
Unfortunately, there ARE things the US wants to do and needs these other countries to do for us and with us. And since it is almost guaranteed that even our "friends" want to be paid, not paying them leads to what? First trump pissed away good will with insults and accusations. Now he is sealing the deal with cutting off the money. Want to see a powerless country - stick around for three more years.
Yes, we do have weapons, but what is trump going to do, make war with ever country that won't aide us in intelligence matters?
Trump had it exactly wrong. He railed about our "friends" who couldn't be counted on - even though we paid them. He is about to see that the real issue is that we won't be able to get help from out friends - because we are not paying them.

Have we ever expressed similar concern over human rights in Saudi Arabia?
