My Dad died of black lung after working in the anthracite mines of NE Pennsylvania. Nothing clean about coal. It's old energy; we should be looking at wind and sun. But need to do it in a way that keeps it low cost for homeowners, too many state legislatures are making solar out of reach for homeowners in deference to the greedy utility companies who want to control all energy.

Homework assignment: how many lead-acid batteries would be needed to power New York City during a windless night in December? How many lithium ion batteries would be needed to do the same thing? How much would each option cost?

New York consumes very little coal-generated electricity. Top-three are natural gas, nuclear and hydro. As for generation, the state has already planned to close all remaining coal plants or convert them to natural gas.

Correct. Wind and solar are not economical, so we are still dependent on fossil fuels like natural gas. Relying wind and solar is a pipe dream.

I guess the solar panel farm Duke Energy built a mile from my house is because they're so anxious to lose money! Relying on wind and solar is an oil pipe dream!
