The Media, and the Democrats are promoting Antifa as actually anti fascist while in reality they employ the fascist tactics of violence, and intimidation which was also used by the Communists very effectively. I call them Fasco-Communists.
They are anti capitalism, anti Constitution, anti American, pro violence, and pro communism, or anarchy, depending what you read. They are a clear, and present danger to the United States, and need to be dealt with when they commit crimes.
This is a big part of the problem.
When 90% of our media, entertainment industry, and educational system is HIGHLY biased left,
most people don't get a balanced picture of what's REALLY going on.
Ironically, it was a Marxist -- Antonio Gramsci -- who identified the phenomenon (though, as is so often the case with the Left, he was projecting).
Americans live under a "false consciousness" carefully crafted by the apparatus of public opinion formation. Perfectly reasonable beliefs have been turned into taboos.

Don't get carried away -- being anti-capitalist is a good thing. Read Tawney and Belloc to get a grasp on this point. However, you're right about the media portrayal. The most ludicrous was Matt Lauer on The Today Show calling them anti-hate protesters while the screen showed Antifa smashing windows.
They're not anti-hate and anti-racist; they're pro-hate and anti-white.
Great article with excellent points about why extremism is never the answer.
Extremists lure people in by convincing them that their beliefs are the only truth and that everyone who disagrees with them is dangerous. It's basically how a cult operates. Cults seem innocuous on the surface. People get sucked into the cult before they even realize it. Once they're in, they stop thinking for themselves. Any new information or even slightly different opinions are dismissed with name-calling and often violence. It's simple herd mentality.
Here's another article looking at the opposite extreme written by the son of a white nationalist:
To be fair to liberals, the media is not constantly telling liberals that Antifas are evil. NPR and the rest of the Leftist media relate a very different narrative.
Most people just soak up what they're exposed to, and that's how they form their opinions. Independent thinkers are a tiny minority.
Sure, that's why half of republicans do not believe in evolution and do believe Trump won the popular vote. Because they're 'free thinkers.'
Actually, read Dershowitz's advice again -- you seem to have missed something:
“I think it’s the obligation of liberals to speak out against the hard left radicals, just like it’s the obligation of conservatives to speak out against the extremism of the hard right,” Dershowitz concluded.
Extremism on either side is never the right answer.
So, conservatives would be smart to heed this advice as well.
The trouble is, many people (on both sides) don't recognize that once they start lurching away from more moderate views, how slippery the slope towards extremism really is.
One telltale sign that you're slipping down that slope is when you start to dismiss moderates as extremists.
I see that happening a lot here in these threads. Again, on both sides.

Even Mitt Romney defended them. Surely he knows what they really are, unless he is utterly out of touch with reality.
