Does anyone who lives in the Houston area know anything about the area around White Oak Bayou? If so, can you let me know if this area is getting any better with flooding? Thanks.

Joel will open his church if the evacuees assure him of a tithe. These mega church preachers worship the green god of money.

No one is talking about dam failure because people have so little experience with it.

A sample of scary math....

I did an analysis of the three spillways on Lake Houston and estimate they can handle 600,000 ft3/sec. For comparison the spillways of Hoover Dam can handle 400,000 cfs.

Current discharge rate of Conroe is now 73,201 cfs according to a tweet by authorities. This is twice the highest flow ever.

However, water from Conroe represents only a fifth of all of the total water shed for Lake Houston.

Therefore, in theory 73,201 cfs * 5 = about 350,000 cfs.

Therefore, I consider 350,000 cfs a pretty good approximate value of water now reaching Lake Houston.

I am unable to find a maximum spillway capacity for Lake Houston and again made my own determination.

Can anyone locate not design capacity but the capacity just before failure?

I presume the 'experts' are keeping a close eye on these dams. It is just that it is hard to predict how this much rainfall will affect these dams. If Lake Conroe would go; how deep will the water become downstream? What is the worse case scenario?
I read a couple of articles this morning about "Why Houston Floods" and the Big Problems with the Earthen Dams. This isn't "new stuff" - it's been recognized as a Major Problem for years and now these "50 year" Floods are happening constantly - the "100 year Floods" coming twice a year.

Dams first as that is more eminent -

Houston dams are old, beat up and a vital line of defense |Houston Chronicle - September 2, 2016

Now about the Floods - Every single person living in Houston should read this series of Articles 2-3 times. They have been kicking this rusted can done the road for decades - it will mean very hard choices for both the Citizens and the Local Government and it will require an "all hands on deck" approach. Houston has to pull together on this and decide what to do. It needs to be a "people" decision and not a "political" decision.

It's all about "what" is causing these increasing Floods and the only solutions available.
