Probably a lot of the uninsured are not eligible for flood insurance since they are not in a Federally designated flood area. Some of the others in flood areas have no mortgage and no bank therefore to enforce expensive premiums. Also, renters probably don't have personal property insurance that would cover losses.

Pork is common. So, you think they'll vote against it if there is pork? I doubt it.

It just came to my mind that there were some news about us being in that church and how we didn't get help... found an article.

Hurricane Rita Evacuees pleas for help ignored in Corrigan Texas. Minority Church to the rescue
Wow, that's awful but not surprising. Small town East Texas is a whole lot different than Houston. Such a shame.

Not everyone goes, even when a mandatory evacuation order is given. Just like not everyone would go in Houston.

I am aware vacationers on 2 outer bank islands were evacuated due to a power failure in July. It was estimated about 2000 cars full of disgruntled vacationers evacuated. Many presumably prematurely returned home. They had a destination and no problem finding gas, food, water, lodging en route.
Look at a map. When they do evacuate the Outer Banks, a lot of the traffic has to go through the Norfolk area. That's why Norfolk has such extensive evacuation plans with zones, planned evacuation routes, and gates on the highway ramps.

It's not just traffic, it's life crushing traffic causing millions of people to be left prone on the roads. We have five deaths, but I absolutely believe that number would have been much higher had Turner ordered an evacuation.

I had errands to run today. Did your lights stay on for GOT? Is your water going up or down? I am glad you are still posting!

Armchair quarterbacking the decisions at this time is pointless as it is an extremely complex situation and no one has all the pertinent information. As time goes by the impact and reasoning behind the decisions will come to light and then it will be a better time to make value judgments on the decisions made.

As it stands it could go in almost any direction:

It could be the case that the mayor went to some board that had estimates for the problems that could be caused by an evac and saw that they outweighed the risks of not ordering it.

It could be that he was like the mayor from Jaws and thought it would all work out fine.

It could be anything between.

You have NO CLUE what you're talking about, and you're using this disaster to take shots at liberals. How pathetic.

This is as nice as I can state it, next time, it won't be.
