Well legally and technically speaking, is looting during an emergency any different than stealing during normal times? I am guessing no, so the same rules apply. Please correct me if some states or local governments define looting in a separate category than just stealing.
Also how hard is it for businesses, especially locally owned ones, to board up windows and secure doors before the storm comes? I know I am playing armchair general but seriously, 2 adults with basic tools can easily increase the security of a small store for lets say......$100 worth of plywood and 4 hours of time. I am going a bit off topic, but I am always pissed at how people don't take care of their stuff.
They are taking advantage of their fellow citizens at their most vulnerable, during a natural disaster or catastrophic event.
People are asked to flee their homes, leaving their valuables. Many times they are leaving their very livelihood behind. One reason people are hurt or die in these storms, is they are afraid that if they leave, looters will stay behind to steal everything they own.
If they are inside my house, I have the law on my side and I will shoot! No question. They gave up their rights to a fair trail walking into the wrong house. I would suggest my neighbor, she hates guns.
Well okay, but I'm talking about looters making off with beer or a TV from an abandoned store or whatnot.
Looting is a pretty serious crime. You make it sound like watching a channel they aren't supposed to.
I along with most people have no problem with using deadly force in the case of a home invasion. But many white conservatives living in Texas would relish the opportunity to shoot a black guy in the back as he runs down the street with their TV or CD player.
You make it sound like taking a life for petty theft is like watching a channel they aren't supposed to. Just another reason why you couldn't pay me to live in such a backward uncivilized hell hole...
My first instinct would be to say yes. Especially when I've scene pictures of looters stealing flat screen tvs, high dollar shoes etc. Fine, if all looters were like that I'm all for making it open season on them. But what about the parent that needs, diapers, formula, or just plain food to keep his family alive ? What if you have a loved one that is diabetic and your supply of insulin has been compromised, should you be shot for breaking into a pharmacy to get some ?
It just isn't a cut and dry answer.
