Coming out against Antifa would not help someone get re-elected in Berkeley. Unless he's aiming for countywide or statewide office, it would not necessarily be a good political strategy. Calling for Antifa to be classified as a street gang, however, is the right thing to do.

Why do you believe that? Coming out against antifa will not hurt most political leaders. People have been speaking out against their tactics for years.

Yes, but I've heard very little support for antifa types from anyone.

And up until now antifa seemed to be welcomed there with police being hands off.
But the violence and property destruction has reached its limit with the residents there.

Same is happening in Portland and Seattle where antifa has protested a few times.

Haven't you read threads on this site? We have a large number of left-wing nutjobs supporting Antifa and BLM violence against those that support our president. A peaceful, political process as defined for a democratic republic, when the public doesn't support the radical policies of left, can't be allowed to exist. They have been embracing the corruption of our process for years, encouraging voter fraud and illegal voting, using government resources to suppress the opposition party, and now are embracing violence to suppress opposition. Fascists all too often-much like the National Socialists of Germany of the 1930s...sadly.

These protests are complicated, no one welcomes property damage or violence that is just silly. They will hopefully catch and expose these people, I want to see their faces and h9istory.

I find most of the Antifa comments here are an attempt to dismiss Trump's actions, if it weren't for Charlottesville you would hardly hear of them.

Nice diatribe. Has there been a lot of support for anitfa's violence on these threads? Can you point out an example?

I know people who are members of BLM and have been in meetings with members of BLM and numerous other groups and no expressed support for the violence that antifa is promulgating. At a recent meeting, in Berkeley, I heard James Lawson of Freedom Rider fame (might have been his brother Phil) while talking about using violence as a tactic state that if he thought breaking windows at Wells Fargo in downtown Oakland would achieve their goals then he would be there everyday breaking the windows. However his position was that the violence would only distract and not achieve anything.
