Maybe a better question is whether a parliamentary form of government would be better. Multiple parties forming coalitions; elections called at irregular times when coalitions fall apart, etc. It seems to work well in Great Britain but in other countries like Italy, there's been a history of weak governments.
Of course, the idea of a weak central government that changes frequently would have some appeal to some of the more radical elements here who think that all taxation is theft and that all government is an enemy of freedom.
