The issue of Confederate Statues has no business being a national issue. Let the communities who pay for the statue make that call. Democrats would be better off focusing on issues that are more universally applicable to all Americans, like healthcare.
The people in Charlottesville did vote. They wanted them to remain. The city voted against that. There's a lawsuit going on right now because the state of VA says that the city does not have the right to tear them down.

The person who organized the event is from Charlottesville. They were denied their right to free speech. They had a permit, the city tried to rescind that permit, a federal judge ordered that the event continue - that the city had no right to take away their 1st Amendment Right to free expression and free assembly. The city told the statue protesters to leave, told the police to stand down, and led them all right in to antifa and BLM who started in on the violence.

This and antifa is backfiring on the left really badly right now. And it's not going to be forgotten, especially when cities like Baltimore have them removed in the middle of the night. This will not be forgotten at all.

while liberals in the comments are angry at this article. I think it brings up some good points
The majority of Americans are against tearing down the statues, even in the South. Most reasonable Dems are not in favor of this nonsense. The more radical the far left gets, the more conservative the moderate D's become.

More of an issue that statues is this statement from the linked article:
"Do I see a debate about monuments playing in 2018? Unlikely,” said Jesse Ferguson, a Democratic strategist and former top aide to House Democrats' campaign wing. “Do I see the larger debate about a government that is embracing and defending white supremacists playing as an issue in the suburbs in 2018? For sure."

It's this ridiculous claim that our government embraces white supremacists. The over-the-top hyperbole and insistence that all Republicans and conservatives are Nazis, that everyone on the right is a "bad guy" because the left is "the good guy" is pissing a LOT of people off.

Exactly.

The stupidity of our politicians is shocking.

Probably b/c the left does not have the President of the freaking United States embracing Antifa or this so called black supremacists (sorry that is such an issue for you). It's hard when you can't get a job due to your whiteness. LOL

This whole 'Trump embraces white supremacists' is a false premise, though. On Charlottesville, he spoke the way he always does; he bungled it, he exaggerated to the point of nonsense, he used his normal 4th grade vocabulary - but it's still dishonest to make the claim that so many on the left keep trying to make. The only ones buying it are those who are so laser-beam-focused on hating anyone to the right of Maxine Waters that they have lost the ability to think for themselves.

WTF does Maxine Waters have to do with your argument. Your argument is that we have a moron president and should not take any thing he says seriously. I agree but that is not how things work. His words are his words. Period. If he doesn't understand that his words matter then maybe he should resign. Understand?

racial discrimination is already illegal

if you know for a fact the job is discriminating against you because of your race, they are breaking the law

how do you know it is because of your race and it is not because the employer preferred someone else?
