perhaps as a society we aren't as magnanimous as we kid ourselves into thinking, hard to extend one's hand when we're too busy patting ourselves on the back all of the time

I think I love you.
Yes, that is really my thinking; that the left is in it for gain not altruism, and therefore ignores a population who is unable to make them (the ones in power) richer.
One hardly hears about successful Natives or remembers to make mention of them because they were reduced to 1 percent of the population.
It's called genocide. Blame the perpetrators.
There are a lot more Native Americans than there are transsexuals. I think they've got real potential for development as a downtrodden identity group in America. They need to get organized... start complaining and demanding more, erect teepees on college campuses, sit 'n bull in administration offices...

only a fool would think this is some sort of leftie/rightie thing
I know of one tribe who has done very well. Their leaders understood the benefits at going to the negotiating table knowing how to speak English. Plus, they made very little treaties with the government and those that were made, the tribal leaders understood English......check out the Nez Perce tribe. With the profits of the casinos, they give to public schools. We see them involving their selves in the community and helping all people, not trying to be a class or community of their own. Many work for the forest service, Fish and Game,etc..... possibly, being told your a victim all your life leads one to thinking they can't improve their own lifestyle.
I think it is time for the Native Americans to ask their own leaders, what deals are being made and where is all the money going. Many tribal leaders live very well! If all NA started moving off of the reservations......would this fix poverty? After all, with poor people politicians always see an extra income. Check out solar energy on tribal lands, but no pipeline.......not sure how much the people will get for solar energy, when money is in oil.
Some how convincing the already poor that they will be a part of this new renewable energy. The only part they are having is being lied to again.
7 Reasons Why Solar Power is NOT The Answer » TinHatRanch Cost. The current cost of 1 watt of solar power generation purchased in industrial quantities is about $0.60USD (2013). That one dollar accounts for just the panel. There is no infrastructure behind that number, no land purchases, no tracking mounts to aim the panels at the sun, no wiring, no transmission, and no labor. There are no numbers available on the cost of such a large scale installation. Again, for the sake of this article let’s assume economies of scale would bring the cost down to $.60USD per watt installed. This number is a staggering $2.541 trillion dollars or $8,094 for every man, woman, and child in the United States.
We looked into this for our property. Guess what! Because it is still connected to the electrical grid, you will still lose power when the electric goes out. How is this saving anything and I thought the whole point was to have power when the power went out? The panels are above ground covering a lot of space, while the pipeline is underground and uses very little above ground.
When will redheads be able to be victims.......after all, talk about the minority that is constantly bashed. Seems "red-headed step-child" is still acceptable, while others can complain about skin-color.
