I was thinking the exact same thing. Matt Damon has just exposed how truly tone deaf to society he really is. That's what happens when you live in an elitist bubble. /shrug
It seems some people, like Matt, make blanket judgements of the entire country and see America comprised of bad people because of a thousand violent thugs in Charlottesville who purposely met up to act out. I wonder why they don't see the kindness of the 10s of thousands of good people in America who for over a week now are dropping everything in their own lives to help, opening their checkbooks to donate, risking their lives in some cases to rescue people, and volunteering at shelters to support victims of the Hurricane that are in terrible crises in Texas and Louisiana.

is Damon right that racism in America is a big problem?
Rich White liberal worth $78 million dollars, living in rich White liberal Hollywood, sends kids to rich, White private schools, makes his living off of shooting people with guns in movies, hangs around with all rich White friends, yet has the gall to lecture us about wealth inequality, the importance of public schools, gun control & racism.
I guess Matt hasn't been watching or reading coverage of Hurricane Harvey. Seeing the selfless and kind Americans helping fellow Americans in this crisis has given me the opposite view to Matt's assessment of this country and our people.
Brother, you aren't kidding. I'm humbled as f*ck this week watching my fellow Texans and tons of volunteers from neighboring states pulling together to help each other out. Lots and lots of people that would be lazily labeled as white Southern nationalists have led the charge in offering VAST amounts of rescue, recovery, and assistance to their fellow Americans down here. How can I ever believe the media and tools like Matt Damon when I'm watching a totally different and real world before my very eyes?

I agree that the coverage from Harvey has been a reaffirming counterpoint to what happened in Charlottesville but I disagree that the good deeds of some mean racism is not a problem. If you are in excellent health in 90% of your body it doesn't mean that you still can't have a tumor that causes "big problems" especially for some parts of the body more than others. Racism is like cancer, even if it is a small percent of the population that is racist, it can still be a big problem for some.
Very well put.
I don't think most people are racist, or at least not willfully so (ignorance - the bubble - being another issue), but there is no denying that some are. Why is it so controversial to acknowledge that and try to correct it?

Exactly. The overwhelmingly selfless response to Harvey is exposing the left-wing's lies about whites and the south. The truth is playing out in real life right before our very eyes.

And that's not even really the point of bringing it up. It's not whether the Bundys are racist or not (they may or may not be) - it's the unequal treatment that we give to a bunch of armed white men who overtake government property in a week's long stand off with federal agents. Can you actually, legitimately, picture that same scenario playing out with a group of black men? I certainly cannot.
And then, when it is all over, can you imagine a scenario where those men receive punishment that amounts to little more than a slap on a wrist or a "don't do it again" speech?
The fact that these guys aren't rotting in a jail cell is despicable and embarrassing. We have people (often black) rotting in jail for simply using drugs...yet these militia men get nothing. Disgraceful.

That's all I see happening here: selfless acts of help. For every unfortunate Charlottesville incident, there's now been countless loving and kind acts of humanitarianism happening here. Let's talk about THAT for awhile.
