(CNN) A man has died after running into the towering blaze for which Burning Man is named, according to the Pershing County Sheriff's Office in Nevada.

Aaron Joel Mitchell, 41, was one of thousands at the annual gathering in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, about 120 miles north of Reno. The weeklong event of pop-up installations culminates in massive burns of an effigy known as the "Man" on Saturday and the "Temple" on Sunday.

He probably had some of that "harmless" plant.

White supremacist, Nazi rally attendee runs into crowd of people with a Dodge Charger, killing one and severely injuring 19.
Stupidest comparison ever, par for the course from the left.

There was no need. Each participant was supplied a Fidget Spinner when they arrived at the festivities in their over-occupancy VW Vans.

I heard burning man was an excuse to run around naked and get stoned. Plenty of naked women to choose from too. True or false? I've never been.

Earthy women wearing Birkenstocks. Who eschew regular bathing and proper grooming. But whatever floats your boat...

This is so stupid. I was really surprised to learn this guy was 41...and that drugs weren't involved. Pretty unbelievable, really.

Honestly, it's almost as dumb as voting for a proven con-man as POTUS.

I suspect drugs or alcohol was involved mixed with suicidal intentions.

We shouldn't joke because today there is now a grieving family somewhere.
Then let's don't.

I agree.

Who knows why this guy did what he did. But one thing I do know - running into a huge fire is not typical behavior anytime, anywhere, for anybody, and unless thousands of people take it up, it doesn't indicate anything about people in general or Burning Man sub-culture in particular.
