Just to put that in perspective - that's a mid-strength F3 tornado, 40 miles wide.

That wind speed is stunning, Sandy had gusts just barely over 100 mph and it took down over a thousand oak trees close to 3 feet in diameter, I never want to see 180mph not to mention the storm surge.

They are saying that Irma winds will be down to 140 by the time it could make landfall in Florida - not that 140 mph winds are not bad enough. It would still be a category 4 hurricane.

I noticed when I was out today people filling gas cans. Not a normal occurrence with high gas prices caused by Harvey storm.
As the crow flies, we are 98 miles from St. Marks, FL, in GA. One of the "possible" landfalls is in that area. 40 miles to the east off I75, water was already flying of the shelves. Two gas stations were closed and there were lines. Yay.

Hurricane Irma has gotten so strong that it's starting to show up on seismometers in the Caribbean--equipment designed to measure earthquakes. This is a monster storm.

Not according to NOAA. Still 185 (as if that wasn't bad enough).

Sorry,. I thought she said 190 mph. Maybe she said "near 190" I was in the other room...
