I think it's time that we have a frank discussion about changing demographics and how it'll impact our country going forward. These gaps are not closing and they will only lead to resentment and strife in the future.
1) Since when has there not been strife and resentment in this country?
2) What demographic changes do YOU want to see?
3) Ever thought of this concept? "Don't study, don't pass".
The crazy thing is many Hispanics and all American Indians are part Asian but; Chinese, Japanese and so on kids usually do well in school.
Black people: word is MOST Africans who started out in Africa and their US born kids do better than any other "race" in the US.
My point is it ain't "race" keeping many of those kids ^^^ down, it's culture. Period.
That's because a race is not a group of clones. There's always variation within any group.
A person is an individual. People are a group of individuals.
I'm stating the obvious here, but there are many who have a hard time understanding the difference.
I wonder about the scores of kids whose parents read to them daily from a very young age.
I'd bet the rent money they do well.

Children whose parents or other caregivers converse with them have significantly larger working vocabularies than those who are not exposed to a rich verbal environment, resulting in a large vocabulary gap by the time children reach preschool/kindergarten.

A better thing to wonder is whether reading daily to low income/low IQ will help them perform better in school. It doesn't. Billions have already been spent to test this theory. It's called the Head Start program. It has been an abysmal failure. There are no lasting effects on school performance from these early childhood interventions.
The truth is: parents who read to their children on a daily basis are already of higher intellect which is why their children perform better. It's not the reading that does it. It's the genes.
This report is honestly scary and an omen of some nasty social unrest in America on the horizon, gets us back to the heated discussions about affirmative action. The US Census recently put out a report on how the United States demographics are changing much faster than previously expected, with an emerging majority of African-Americans, Latinos and Muslims rapidly coming to outnumber the white population as early as 2030 (they're already a growing majority in schools). This process is being accelerated by mass immigration to the US, which is more and more from Africa and the Muslim world (biggest percentage increase in past decade though Latinos still predominate overall). Yet these 3 groups are the ones most lagging in educational achievement even as their numbers rapidly increase. The hard truth, and the very politically incorrect truth, is that even poor white and Asian kids vastly outscore the USA's emerging majority, which poses the danger of creating in effect a majority underclass of African-American, Latino and Muslim Americans shut out of high-paying jobs and the professions.
This would be explosive, and even recent history of nations with such a situation (a professional, well paid minority amid a less educated majority) show it almost always leads to catastrophe. This is becoming something like the main justification for affirmative actin now, as a way to reduce the danger of social unrest, but that can only go so far. White and Asian-Americans more and more are going to come to bitterly resent the raised bar for them and the economic burden they have to take on.
Again, not true. African immigrants do among the best in school, Latino immigrants have been improving for decades partially due to increase in immigrants from countries like Venezuela were wealthy immigrants have been coming from in the last 5 years (my younger brother saw an increase in about 100 new Venezuelans in one year at his school). Muslims in America are almost as high achieving as Asians. Asian immigration is the fastest growing and makes up a plurality of immigrants today although that number for Asian immigrants include Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indonesian and Malay Muslims, they don't make up anywhere near the majority of Asian immigrants and again they are doing well economically.
Of course IQ is part genetic.
But that doesn't support your statement that "It's not the reading that does it. It's the genes."
Agreed if you put Einsteins son with a poor family that barely holds a grasp of the English language themselves and can't afford a computer in their house, do you expect Einstein son to suddenly speak like a college educated professor by middle school, because of genes. He might go out of his way to get educated but he would not have the same advantages of parents who were educated. On the other hand if you have a poor kid from a low IQ family at birth be raised by a wealthy family that invests hours a day into his education and helps him with everything possible do you think his IQ would suddenly force him to stop school and dropout successfully?
