Pure BS.

You do what democrats do, you blame something else and funnel money to unions who become political pawns and minions who keep the kids poorly educated so that the cycle never stops...

You need to check out Texas. A right to work state. Only about 1/3 of teachers are in the teachers organization. The only reason they pay dues is because the association will pay their legal fee when a parents sues. The districts will not.

Texas has been run by the more conservative wing of the Republican party for 25 years. Everything in it, including education. My local school district has been run by Southern Baptist, the conservative Lutherans and Mormons forever.

Our scores just keep on dropping.

The politicians who heard students in the street shouting 'Hell no, we won't go" decided to dummy us down. They were not the liberals.

Close. It wasn't the politicians. It was the Ed School SJWs, etc., and their disastrous attempt at 'social engineering.'

I posted the info on that here:

You can't. That's why every program to up the ACT scores among some minorities will fail.

Parents have to want to be involved but some believe it's societies problem to raise and educate their offspring.

So until this haphazard breeding that's going on in some minority's neighbourhood stops, barely functional illiterates speaking gutter English will be the end result.

I agree with you. Poor quality public schools and lack of parental involvement guarantees failure. The only hope is freeing up the school system and creating smaller sized clasrooms and a voucher based education that at least gives the kids a fighting chance. I don't get how the left can fight this only because they want to keep the unions in control of the education. Very sad.

You know, it's funny, I think parental involvement is sometimes misunderstood. It doesn't mean hovering over your children while they do their homework, obsessing over PowerSchool, or spending all day volunteering in the classroom. I think what makes the biggest difference is the basic stuff:

* ensuring that your children get enough sleep with a regular bedtime and wake-up routine
* providing nutritious meals on an appropriate schedule
* taking them for regular check-ups to ensure they are in good physical & mental health
* encouraging them to get outside for regular exercise (better yet, do it with them)
* creating a quiet space for study and provding sufficient time for them to use it
* maintaining a peaceful and well-ordered home
* being supportive of the educators in your child's life
* giving your child opportunities to share their academic accomplishments with you, and
* showing enthusiasm for their learning

You can go beyond that by taking them to the library every week, making use of tutors, sending them to academic summer programs, etc., but just the stuff listed above is really the foundation for doing well in school and also in the life that comes beyond it, whether that finds your child working as an accountant, a plumber, or nuclear physicist.

The motivation is to get more minority role models in the classroom, but it arguably hurts minority groups as you have teachers who then lack basic skills teaching kids.

There seems to be a cognitive dissonance amongst some liberals who want to improve US education, bring up scores, but have less competent teachers.
We need more scholarships given to minority students who major in education and mathematics. These scholarships should be sourced from the NBA.
