You are living in the past, politically. Will Mr Trump be successful? No one, really knows. Folks who voted for President Trump did not want the same old, same old. Simply, secure borders, an interest-based foreign policy, and economic nationalism. This is why many of the Trump supporters voted. Further, it is why the small deal, in my opinion, with the Democrat leadership over the the debt ceiling is so telling. Republican leadership no longer is the only drum major for the party. The 'party' is no longer what has been, for so many decades.
Whigs, anyone? Perhaps.

Once again, it's all about partisanship. A bitter contentiousness between conservatives and liberals has overtaken loyalty to the Constitution and the Union. It makes me sick to my stomach.
Trump is about to strip the libs of the only power they have left
Trump's taking peoples' right to vote away?
The Bastid!
He just met with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, he over rode his own party leaders and his budget director in favor of the democrats. He sure has a strange way of stripping power.

The two parties should be focusing on things they agree on, they should have began with tax reform instead of something as divisive as health care. There actually should be common ground even with health care such as the cost of drugs but starting off with a full repeal was a mistake. Trump is not an ideologue but he has been given bad advice by his handlers.

If he knew what he was doing, he'd recognize bad advice.
If congressional Rs knew what they were doing, they'd have gotten something done about health care.
Right-wing authoritarians are people who have a high degree of willingness to submit to authorities they perceive as established and legitimate, who adhere to societal conventions and norms, and who are hostile and punitive in their attitudes towards people who don't adhere to them. They value uniformity and are in favour of using group authority, including coercion, to achieve it.
Right-wing authoritarians want society and social interactions structured in ways that increase uniformity and minimize diversity. In order to achieve that, they tend to be in favour of social control, coercion, and the use of group authority to place constraints on the behaviours of people such as political dissidents and ethnic minorities. These constraints might include restrictions on immigration, limits on free speech and association and laws regulating moral behaviour. It is the willingness to support or take action that leads to increased social uniformity that makes right-wing authoritarianism more than just a personal distaste for difference. Right-wing authoritarianism is characterized by obedience to authority, moral absolutism, racial and ethnic prejudice, and intolerance and punitiveness towards dissidents and deviants.
I was thinking the same thing....Republicans control the House, Senate, President, Supreme Court, lower federal courts, most state legislatures and most state Governors....but the Dems are in control?
No the Democrats are not in control. Rather the Republicans are out of control.
You assertion is correct, in the sense that the Republican party's various factions do not, will not - apparently - agree, coalesce, fall in line. Being a conservative and since it is the only realistic game in town, at the moment, I do not like, but can accept.
Ugly, but I think the diversity of thought and views is good for our Republic. Court nominees, economic nationalism, secure borders by whatever means and interest-based foreign policy are my priorities. All are good and all good things take time.
