It is about NK and its most recent missile, but the local communist
had to stop by to promote some of his handler's propaganda.
Trouble with "letting those in that region" deal with it is two fold.
First, we have mutual defense treaties with them,
and second, N.K. is about two steps away from
being able to put the lights out here in the U.S.
We have mutual defense treaties with Israel. When is the last time we attacked the palestinians for them?
Wh have mutual defense treaties with England, some how we stayed out of the Falklands conflict.
As for N.K. attacking the US. WE have boomers for a reason. WE have attack subs that can launch Tomahawks as well as other assets in the area in the region if and when it becomes apparent the NK's are preparing an attack. 650 billion a year on defense we better be ready for a Pizzant country like NK.
My concern is that we are prostituting our military for everyone else's defense. Let people take ownership of their own defense.

The conflicts you are discussing did not rise to the level that would require our direct intervention.
This will, sooner or later.

It is already apparent they are preparing for an attack.
They just aren't on the launch pad, yet.
So, how far do you let them go?
Or are you OK with letting them put our lights out?
EXACTLY......8-months and not one single legislative victory! Not even a "HONEYMOON Period" for this most disliked President ever elected in American history!
Yup.
AND the most INCOMPETENT President ever elected in American history. He can't seem to get ANYTHING major done - not even an Obamacare Repeal (which the GOP campaigned on for nearly a decade).
What a moron.

Im ok with turning NK into a parking lot...... I have no love for them. I am not ok with doing it because Japan feels threatened. In short I care about why we do it. I care about us being used time after time to do someone else's heavy lifting.
I'm a vet and remember sitting off the coast of Lebanon for months at a time. We weren't there because Lebanon, Egypt or Syria were a threat to the United States.
Not once but twice in memory we refused to use our assets to protect US citizens in that region. The attack on the USS Liberty and Benghazi. We can debate why we didn't and why we maintain assets in the region at great expense to the tax payer. What we shouldn't debate is that US Military assets should be about defense of our own nation and our own people, first and always.
10 carrier battle groups. Yet we have drugs being smuggled, by boat, into our country daily.
22 cruisers, 63 destroyers. Yet we don't or can't defend our home waters.
Japan and South Korea need to take the lead in their dispute with North Korea.
Yup.

And to be fair, that is if you are willing to be fair. Trump inherited a Nuclear armed North Korea from his predecessors. He didn't create the mess this thread is about.
There is one consequence to this that China and Korea need to take a hard look at...........Japan is rearming itself. Do they really want a repeat of the 1930's and 40's?

Of course he didn't create it - but NEITHER DID OBAMA. It's a been a long-term problem that grew gradually over decades. The fact remains however that NOW it's Trumps problem and he's not helping matters any by tweeting stooooopid stuff like his "fire and fury" nonsense. When he says stuff like that - and then DOESN'T DO ANYTHING when North Korea calls his bluff he just makes us look weak. He needs to keep those little fingers on those little hands AWAY from TWITTER.
Donald Trump is a BRAGGART but he's apparently all sizzle and no steak.

Um, that ain't gonna happen.
CHINA is the growing milary power in the Pacific - NOT Japan.

These are the kinds of signals that need to be sent to the three parties that figure the most prominent in this continuing debacle.
China, Russia and the U.N. need to get their chit together and stop all the phony nonsense. There are any number of countries watching this silliness and now once again contemplating how much of their GDP spending upon their military they need to increase.
China sitting on their hands while Japan begins seriously reconsidering it's anti-offensive use of it's current capabilities and perhaps even to the extent of it's anti-nuke policies is simply stupid. They do not need or want a bellicose Japan confronting them on their current China Sea expansionism.
Russia, in the throes of trying to resurrect it's out-dated and drastically weakened military to some degree of it's former greatness needs to consider events escalating beyond it's ability to respond effectively.
The U.N. and it's overwhelming irrelevance achieved via allowing despots and malcontents seats at the tables of decision makers needs to rethink and reset their mandate to their founding principles.
This little pumpkin-headed-turd-in-a-punch-bowl-dictator who has starved his people for decades while all parties looked the other way has been allowed to flourish until he has now become the single biggest threat of world destruction since WWII. He has the potential to set those dominoes falling like no other despotic entity since Stalin.
Trump and his well earned image of being completely ineffective while at odds with any semblance of mature common sense leaves no one listening to the inexorable tick-tock of the doomsday clock.
Everyone's ignoring Kim's threats when those should have been reason enough for the U.N. to have issued an ultimatum to both Russia and China, along with a sidebar to Iran, to stop assisting this idiot who is insanely bringing us all to the brink of the abyss.
Um, that ain't gonna happen.

Of course..... not like Japan was ever a Military power.........
