and with singlepayer , you will have our stupid governmental politicians deciding on what to pay, and what to deny you even have.........our government still barely recognizes agent orange, and doesn't recognize desert storm sickness, the Iraq 1 sickness where our government gave us experimental drugs, or even people being sick from burnpits.....
sorry but our government has shown that they don't care...and wont
I don't see the present Medicare program run like that. The several people I know on it are happier now than when on the company plan. Expanding that program should be easy.

Having your union or your employer or the government or whoever "pay 100% of your healthcare" is the reason why healthcare in the U.S. is so expensive.
Average Joe doesn't know and doesn't care how expensive his health care is...until he has to start paying premiums. He has very limited or no choices to shop around for health care. And then he is told that our "capitalist" health care system has failed. In truth, it hasn't resembled a true, free market capitalist health care system in over 70 years, before most of us were born. We're told the only answer is some kind of socialist system...which is just another system with limited choice. It promises to lower costs. In all likelihood, it will just continue to hide them and then pass on the increased costs in tax increases or cuts in service over time. But many want to delude themselves to think single payer is going to magically take away the corruption and greed from the health care system.
The hard, yet liberating, truth is that we, the people could take away 70% of the costs of our health care system overnight if we wanted to without the aid of any politicians in Washington DC. 70% of all disease in America today is related to lifestyle choices. We could stick it to the health care industry, Washington politicians, and health care costs all in one fell swoop. But since few believe that is possible, we get the mess we have, continually looking for a new savior or a new system that will save us. We are the ones who will save ourselves--or not.
All of this fighting over insurance is just completely backward and wrong headed. The only real way to reduce costs is to change our way of life. Yes, it is possible. It's not expensive or even that high tech. Here are 2 people who present some options:
Single payer healthcare provider... how about single choice for high speed internet service provider... how is that working out for those unlucky enough to live in an area with only one true broadband internet provider?
Most European Healthcare is not single payer and involves private health insurance, the exceptions being the UK, Italy and a few other countries.
France has elements of private healthcare in it's national scheme and has what is known as multi-payer heathcare, as does Germany, whilst Sweden privatised many parts of it's health system and there are numerous other examples. The multipayer system is one in which health are is funded by private and public contributions.
The best examples of universal healthcare are multi-payer and not single-payer.
Which makes me wonder why Americans keep going on about single payer systems.

There shouldn't be group health insurance provided by employers, I don't know why it isn't done away with pronto. Only when everyone is on the same playing field can we decide the rules of the game.
I have for the last 25 years. The U.S. is the only First World country without it. Even Iraq has it. At the insistence of George W. Bush and the expense of U.S. taxpayers, it was written into their new constitution.
Friends of mine in Europe and Australia pity us and think we're crazy for not having gone to UHC already.
