I could have a field day with your list, but will focus on #2.

One of the biggest problems that has been developing in this country, is the lack of intellectual debate, especially regarding social issues.
It use to be that both conservatives and liberals agreed that the 1st Amendment was paramount to this constitutional republics well being. It was also considered vital that professional journalist report the news as honestly and unbiased as humans are capable of. Sure certain stories would be chosen over others, and might have some personal framing involved, but not to such a degree that the citizens would get a totally warped and one sided view.
Most importantly, things not provable as facts were not purported to be such, just opinion/speculation.

We have also heard that a free press is vital to a democracy. That is certainly true, as any government controlled press is only going to tell the people what the overlords wants them to know.
Thus most people do think our press is free in this country.

The trouble is, far too many people from one ideological perspective had become dominate in the press and generally the news media as a whole. Sure there have been exceptions like the WSJ, but they are only fiscally conservative, not socially.
In the 1950 and before, you had a mix of conservatives and liberals who owned, operated and worked within the news media/press. Thus they undoubtedly had intellectual debate as to how the story should be framed, which stories to run, and even making sure that a counter-point was expressed. Needless to say that is not what we have today. If you were to listen to the broadcasts of the big 3 (ABC, NBC, CBS) along with PBS, CNN, etc., virtually all of them are ideologically left leaning or outright liberal. The only counter balance for a long time was talk radio such as Rush Limbaugh, but you can hardly call his show news or journalism.
You can hardly have a free press when most all of the reporting comes from one side of the ideological perspective.
You do not need the government to take over the press/news media, when it is doing so voluntarily when Democrats are in control of the WH and/or Congress. It is akin to government run news, which is something we all have historically agreed should not be allowed.

When Fox arrived on the scene, it was viewed as to conservative, but again it was a counter-balance to all the Main Stream Media which was liberal. Many a real story not even touched upon by the MSM was being covered on Fox. Once people started talking about those stories, only then did the MSM start reporting on them, but in many cases reluctantly, and toward the end of their shows, or the back of their papers.
To watch Fox during the Clinton or Obama years compared with most of the other big news outlets, you'd think only Fox ever covered anything not in lock step with everyone else. Even when there was criticism of the government when a (D) was in the WH, it was brief and almost dismissive or rationalized. Yet the bias was so palpable, you would see a very different MSM when a (R) were in the WH. Then all of a sudden investigate journalism was in full bloom.
I could go on, but two books written by different women can cover this phenomenon for those of you who are genuinely interested. One is written by a liberal and the other is written by an award winning journalist who went after (R's & D's) with the same gusto;

The old school liberals who use to champion Voltaire's famous utterance "I may dislike what you have to say, but will defend your right to say it" has become a thing of the past.
Modern day leftists and many liberals now worship a new thought process, that being Political Correctness.
PC boils down to a suppression of speech/expression, but the adherents to it do not even see how insidious it is.
Then came Donald Trump, and was not only un-PC, he took it head on and helped people to see that if you do not give into it, you can survive the PC police trying to control and eventually ruin those who will not knuckle under.

In regard to fake news, Attkisson's new book delves into how smear merchants create fake news both for profit, and political hit jobs.

There are examples of both liberals and conservative outlets and behind the scenes brokers who engage in this new form of deception from both sides of the political spectrum. One of the biggest and most interesting is David Brock who started the Media Matters empire, where he started out as a political attack dog against the liberals, but now works for the left to attack the conservatives. He is a real piece of work, and you will not believe how many non profits he runs, yet the IRS and others don't seem to know or care.

I have run out of time for now, but hopefully this will open the eyes of the OP and some others to realize some facts they may not be aware of.

By far. Two words that should never be used in the same sentence are "brilliant" and "Trump".

Yes. It's like wondering, constantly, when the next shoe will fall...and the wearer is a centipede.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The Republicans tried to work with Obama numerous times only to be shut out by the Smug left. Now, 8 years later they are using every trick in the book to bring down a duly elected POTUS because they and you can't handle that they lost an election that wasn't part of their agenda. As soon as Trump reached out Pelosi and Schumer fell over each other racing to the White House. The next day Schumer is caught on a hot mike excitedly telling people that The President REALLY REALLY LIKES ME.

Ah, so that's why the ACA was immediately repealed and replaced with something far better.

OH! WAIT!

It wasn't!

I agree. He exploited the notion of loyalty and took advantage of a base that was/is so emotionally wound it, they can't think straight...or at all it seems at times. Look at all of the closet hate that has been exposed. Him becoming Pres is a true blessing if we ever are to fulfill our potential as a country. At least we are talking. The best way to start a conversation would be: "This is what I wont admit..."

Thanks for replying. Dont assume I am ignorant though. THE fact is this. If you understand what the "world" is, none of what has, is, and will happen is a surprise. Man cannot save himself. THAT is a fact. Guys like you spend time studying the pathology of man's decision-making when the TRUTH is, it does not fundamentally change. We get so caught up being right, that we become self-righteous and prideful...it is a sickness in our minds that HAS to be renewed. #facts
