I was out with a very Liberal friend today and of course our chat turned to politics. He hates Trump Loves Hillary. I like Trump but I am also realistic and critical of him but I preferred him over Hillary and still do.

We talked about North Korea, the kneeling NFL, Russian collusion and healthcare etc...
He believes that Trump is beholden to Russian banks due to loans he took with them. I pointed out that was years before he ran for office so it shouldn't matter but he says it does because they are in a position to ask him for favors.
As far as the collusion goes he thinks Mueller will dig up the dirt and Trump will be in big trouble. He thinks the Russians influenced certain areas of the country by hyping the negative aspects of Hillary on social media and swaying peoples minds not to vote for her.

I still don't get how people can be swayed like that with a subliminal message considering how much of Hillary's negative aspects and scandals were well known and true but there it was.

For me what made me vote against Hillary was that she was for open borders, increasing the refugee program by 550% , placing one or two supreme court judges and rewriting the second amendment not to mention how she left our guys out at Benghazi and he questionable ties to the Middle east.

I thought those were good enough reasons not to vote for her but according to my friend I am narrow minded when it comes to Hillary?

Do you have friends who see politics in a totally different way then you do?

I'm a liberal and have some very conservative friends. We rarely if ever talk about politics, there are always much more fun things to talk about (bow hunting season is coming up soon ). When politics does come up, we agree to disagree, though we often do find common ground somewhere in the middle.

I have no idea how my friends view politics. I don't discuss it with them, and change the subject if they try to discuss it with me. My stock statement would be something along the lines of - "I don't follow politics at all and know nothing about any of it" - a quick pivot to asking about their kids, grandkids or something I know they are interested in ..... usually ends the "politics" stuff.

I do know how some of family view politics - but still act like I'm just not interested and pretty much clueless about Politics. They buy that because they are "Political Elites" and so Arrogant that they are convinced they know everything about everything and pretty much everyone else is just not smart enough to "get" it.
As long as I do all the cooking for them ... they seem happy enough to leave the subject alone.

There is no way that you have no idea of your friends political views. You either have no friends or your friendships are completely shallow & without substance.

There are some people I avoid talking to because I DON'T want to talk politics with them. I understand that it would turn into an argument. I have swung from passive liberal to conservative to liberal/socialist, to passive libertarian, and at this point, I'm independent. I have views that don't line up with one side or the other. For instance, I've taken a "none of my business" mentality towards gay marriage. I am still against abortion. I want marijuana legalized and taxed. I am very pro-gun. I'm ambivalent on the death penalty. I want to see much more severe punishments for people who have committed rape. At the same time, I don't think "listen and believe" is the best way to approach rape cases. This gives way too much room for false accusations. I despise stop and frisk and I see this as a violation of one's constitutional rights.

Now, I've learned that because my political views are all over the places, it is easy to start an argument with anyone. Some people I could discuss politics with provided I avoid that one issue. Some people I don't discuss politics with at all because there are too many wrong buttons they could push. Some people I don't speak with as much because they are incredibly political and to the point of being crazy.

Yes. In fact, my housemate is my polar opposite, politically. She is like a mom to me, but I get very frustrated when we talk about politics.

The thing that bothers me is not that we have differing opinions about policy. It's the fact that, during the primaries, she thought Trump was absolutely dreadful. Once it became clear that he would be the Republican nominee, it was as if all of her objections just vanished into thin air. Now, not only does she stand with him, even though she has said she wishes he would stop with the tweets, she dismisses other Republicans she once admired as RINOs every time they oppose him about anything. Her usual reply, when questioned about this, is to change the subject or say she doesn't want to talk about politics, even if she was the one who brought it up in the first place. It's not her support of Trump that bothers me most, it's what seems to me to be her unconditional allegiance to him.

I had reservations about Hillary, but I do have to wonder...if Trump had been scrutinized to the same degree for the past three decades, how would he hold up, in terms of questionable ties and scandal? I'm not sure he would fare any better. I'm not sure you are narrow-minded about Hillary, as it sounds like you have defensible reasons for not liking her. I guess my question would be, are you narrow-minded about the possibility that Trump may be just as bad?

Hillary's book price is half-off at my local store. I guess everyone already knows 'What happened.'

The election was nearly a Year ago, Hillary is now a private citizen and will remain that way.

Have friends from both sides, normally we do not talk politics, there are more important and interesting things to talk about than some election that is now nearly a year old.

Yes, I have friends who are staunch Democrats and refuse to admit that both major parties suck and care only about winning and not the average American.

I totally avoid talking politics to my liberal friends. It is useless to even try.
