The estate tax was passed during the progressive era to forestall the creation of an American aristocracy. It has done so with some success.

So, the question is why should we create a permanent upper class in this country? After all nearly all our forebears left Europe because there was no upward mobility because the aristocracy kept them down.

The estate tax has worked and we should not repeal it.
Estate Tax should be 100 percent. Let the billionaires children actually compete no more bailouts. An exemption could be made for a family home or farm under 2 million.

There is inequality get over it. You dont seem to mind when the govt takes someones wealth, but when it is earned and held in the private sector it becomes something evil.
You're right, no tax meets my approval.
You have not justified to me why taking someones money because they have it and you don't, is acceptible. You have a criminal mindset, I'm glad you're not my neighbor

That was mean. Bs that as it may, I am not offended. The estate tax serves a great societal purpose. Contrary to what you may think, I do not believe in a tax that serves no purpose. They should be repealed. The estate tax is not such a tax.

I do not have a military or a police force or a fire dept, state department, etc. etc. So the rich people who benefit the most have the most to be able to pay. Let them pay, I will continue to support the economic system which allows the rich to continue being rich as long as they are willing to support the system we need for support.

If the rich do not want to support our economic system by paying out money they will never miss let them leave.

No, that makes no sense! If trump , Kennedy ,Clinton or Gates wants to leave the money they earned (how ever they got it) to the kids let the kids or whom ever get it.The goverment should not steal from someone just becuase they die.

uhm... the estate tax blocks upward mobility. it in fact creates an upper class that is limited to those that can withstand its impact. but it utterly blocks those that are moving from middle income to upper income levels from becoming truly wealthy

is that really what the left thinks is good? that as a nation we take a stand against people BECOMING wealthy?

how sad.

Then it is a miserable failure on that point.
