We cannot continue to endure this carnage, claim we are saddened by these events, excuse the perpetrators as "nuts', "crazy", or a "political extremist", do nothing to try and prevent the proliferation of weapons of war by civilians, but insist we really care about the safety and security of our people.
Our national hypocrisy is costing people their lives and creating senseless suffering.

When you regulate firearms, only the law abiding citizens are affected. The people who wish to do harm won't follow the law.
But, if there's no law, how do you punish those caught trying to do harm?

Regulating motor vehicles doesn't stop accidents either, but doesn't it make sense they're registered so there's at least a chance of finding someone like a hit & run driver?

It's not the guns, it's the people.
The Las Vegas shooter reportedly owned several aircraft, would we be calling for the banning of light aircraft had he loaded one with a bomb or deliberately crashed one into a crowded venue?
How do you legislate against the suicidal determined to take others with them?

If he'd planted a bomb in the middle of the crowd would we calling for restrictions on materials necessary to build bombs?
That's the equivalent of spending $20 million to bribe a bank worker to give you the alarm codes and vault combination to a bank with $1 million on hand.
Funny thing is that the total cost of the war on terror is estimated to be around $2 trillion by end of this year. Pretty easy to find that missing $2.4 trillion now. Of course the spending also generates billions in our economy for government and contractors.
