It states in the first paragraph: The oft-cited statistic in Australia is a simple one: There have been no mass killings — defined by experts there as a gunman killing five or more people besides himself — since the nation significantly tightened its gun control laws almost 20 years ago.
They then contradict themselves by citing a mass killing in that involved a gun: The deadliest shooting since 1996 occurred last year, when a farmer in New South Wales fatally shot his wife and three children before killing himself. That's right folks, that's not "none".
They also muddy the waters by saying mass killings are defined as a gunman killing 5 or more. No, that would be a mass "shooting".
And what of these "mass killings"?
6/23/2000 - Arson attack that killed 15.
2/7/2009 - Arson attack that killed 10.
11/18/2011 - Arson attack that killed 11.
12/14/2014 - Stabbing that killed 8.
1/20/2017 - Vehicle attack that killed 6.
The article lies in the first paragraph. My examples show that if evil people are bent on killing, they will kill. Take their guns away, and they will resort to any number of other weapons.
Thanks, but I know enough about firearms to understand that the claim that the average person can fire as many rounds with a bolt action rifle or a pump shotgun as a semi auto is bull manure. Vegas showed that with brutal effect, so keep making all the nonsensical statements you want.
Besides, it is you bunch of cowboys proclaiming how much safer you are in a gun battle with 10 home invaders with a semi than a shotgun, so spare me your selective nonsense. Or at least be honest enough to pick a side and stick with it no matter the circumstances, instead of altering your claims to fit your need.
Semi-auto lowers the skill floor on rapidly and accurately placing shots on a target. Anyone who says otherwise is lying or ignorant. Can a person with a high degree of skill and practice do the same with pump actions or lever actions, sure... maybe, but that requires them to be closer to the skill ceiling than the skill floor, and with the same amount of practice and skill using semi-auto firearms that same expert would still most likely be more effective.
It is dead simple, lever and pump actions require more motion and steps to sequentially shoot even if in some cases it is only marginally more, again that is not really up for debate. More motion and and steps increase the odds of making mistakes, increase the odds of pulling the gun off target, increase basically the chance of making every kind of error.

Obviously, I didn't read the whole thread, there are too many comments to go through. But for a country that's supposed to be the "freest" and an example of the free world, the U.S just keeps failing. This is a country where a kinder surprise is illegal, yet I can legally obtain firearms. The NRA is a $27B industry so of course, they'll do anything to keep that figure status quo or go higher. The U.S needs stricter gun laws because that country has just got out of hand with all the mass shootings and loonies running around everywhere.
Nothing of consequence will be done and in a short while we will be lamenting the deaths of another group of people in the next shooting spree. Its just the way it is in America.
I wonder to whom the Vegas shooter wired tens of thousands of dollars. Did that person or group help supply him with guns and ammo? His girlfriend is of Filipina descent though supposedly raised in Australia. She is currently in Japan I heard. Something strange.
Actually, they did. The "experts" (unnamed, of course) cited in their article may call it 5, but experts in the US use the number 4 to define "mass killings". As do I.
1. Stop releasing anybody who is ineligible to own a firearm. They need to stay in prison or hospital until their situations change.
Instead of imprisoning people who are ineligible to own a firearm, we could pass laws that would stop those people from being able to purchase firearms. But when democrats try to pass laws that stop the severely mentally ill and terrorists from being able to purchase firearms the republicans stop those laws from passing.
2. Impose a mandatory 10 years minimum sentence without parole for anybody committing any felony with any arm, not just guns. The second time, the person gets life without parole.
3. Abolish background check entirely (see #1) - employment or gun purchase. Either people have paid the debt to the society or they should stay in prison until such time.
Perhaps instead of keeping people who should not own a gun in prison, we should try passing laws that would stop those people from being able to purchase firearms.
