TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump has helped Democrats win an improbable victory in Florida, taking a state Senate seat away from the Republicans who have dominated state politics for two decades.

Trump was a focal point in last week's special election, which sends Annette Taddeo to Tallahassee as the first Latina Democrat in the Florida Senate.

So being anti-Trump may actually be a working strategy considering how many people despise him.

So far, there's no evidence that Trump is as toxic to other Republicans as Obama was toxic to all other Democrats.

Democrats actually have won like 7 state special elections recently in red districts. We won I think 2 in New Hampshire around the same time as this Florida one.

It shall be interesting to see how the November 2018 elections are handled by both parties. Back in 2010 the Republicans had great success in running 'against' Nancy Pelosi, tying her to the coattails of many Democrats. I imagine the Democrats will turn the tables and tie President Trump to many Republicans.

Whether that works, of course, remains to be seen.

I will add that some Republicans may try to avoid Mr. Trump on the principle that his support can be uncertain at times, such as the odd campaign speech he made on behalf of Mr. Luther Strange ("But, I could be wrong", in supporting Mr. Strange). It just shows that one can never be sure of what Mr. Trump will say 'on the stump', especially if he decides to 'wing it', as he often does.

I think he had no clue about strange...he was told by McConnell to support him without knowing the full story behind strange and how he took that seat....

Ds flipped a seat in Oklahoma which I think is nothing short of a miracle.

Folks there would elect a possum if it had an R next its name on the ballot.

This is just a sample of the wave of disgust sweeping over an awakening nation, which will clear many of the scoundrels out of politics over the next two years. Many republican legislators will resign, to avoid the humiliation of rejection at the polls. When republican gerrymandering is reversed, there will probably never again be a majority for that party, anywhere other than in a few redneck backwaters.
