...... What bothers me is, why did this guy take 23 firearms into his hotel room, that doesn't make much sense. One firearm is enough to inflict the damage he did. We'll never know
It makes perfect sense to me and is testament to his careful forethought and planning. Time was of the essence and he clearly wanted to kill or maim as many people as possible in as little time as possible before the police would break down his door and he would have to kill himself, which he knew would have to happen. He didn't want to waste one second of time reloading a single gun nor to be handling a gun that might become too hot from over-use or jammed and no longer possible to use. It's easier and much faster to put down an empty, possibly hot/jammed gun and pick up another gun that is cool to the touch, loaded, ready and waiting for immediate action.
This is a non-issue. Drive to hotel, park in hotel parking facilities. Check-in. Go back to car. Get duffel bag containing weapons from car. Take elevator to room. Repeat as needed.
I am no shrink, but when these things happen I try to think of reasons that would compell rational human beings to do such heinous acts.
My outlook on things isn't one based on emotion. There isn't one single negative life event that has occured to me that motivated me to seek out a sadistic act to that degree, whether it's a bombing, a shooting, whatever.
I've been through nasty break ups, I've had financial issues when I was younger, I had work related issues that had occured, friendships end, I never dwelled on it. Not once. I look at the situation I find myself in and look for solutions to remedy them. I couldn't ever think of seeking out a heinous act to this degree. You have to be one sick individual to put innocent people through something like this. I simply don't have it in me to carry out something like this. I can't wrap my head around why someone would do something like this, again I'm not a psychologist.
I had a thought of what if this guy was deemed terminally ill at age 64, some type of stage 4 cancer with months left to live? It doesn't add up it doesn't make any sense why someone who's successful would carry out such a thing...
If I were deemed terminally ill, I'd go spend the rest of my days with loved ones and carry out everything on my list before my death bed, that way I'm not laying there with regret and saying I wish I could have ______. Or I regret ______.
Fallings out and quarrels with friends, I simply moved on. Whether a difference in opinion, or something where I did something they disagreed with or they did something I disagreed with. Who am I to control them and their life? Friends who turned to drugs I simply removed myself from them after suggesting getting help. I will not enable their addiction. I won't give them money, I won't give them a place to stay to carry out their habit. I will give them a stern talking to and drive them to a treatment center.
Others were taken too soon by a drunk driver. That enraged me, but didn't get me to want to go eliminate them and their family old West style. It's not going to bring them back. What would slaughtering the drunk or their family achieve? Nothing.
Break ups. Been through some rough ones. They suck. But they don't get me thinking of making others suffer or hurt. I look at it like this. Better to happen now and not 5 years after saying I do and lose half my stuff in divorce, and having to split custody over kid (s). Could always be worse. Time once spent with a significant other, I focus on hobbies and positive things. Such as going to the gym, go hiking, find a positive distraction to invest in.
Financial issues, had them. Never once cried woe is me or seek a destructive means to justify my angst. I did what had to be done to come up with the money I needed. Whether it was sell off something I owned, haul junk to the scrap yard, pick up a side job, I did what I needed to legally to get out of a hole.
In otherwords. I'm not consumed by emotions. I look at what happened. How can I fix this. And move on. Not drag others down with me. Not take my frustration out on others. Nor plot a heinous demise.
In my younger and wilder days, sometimes I'd be involved in fist fights whether it was in the pits at a dirt track, or out at a bar and wind up hitting on someone's ex (in a small town word travels fast) but it never escalated more than fists or tire irons and Jack handles. Take your lumping and go on. Black eyes heal, welts and fat lips shrink, nose stops bleeding eventually. And I never sought out to gun the adversary down. Nor call the cops. Settle it then and there, and move on like men.
Significant other cheats on you with your best friend. Write them both off kick her out after she's collected her stuff.
Someone can't out drive you at the track and stuffs you in the wall or purposely wrecks you, tussle and move on if that's what makes you feel better after they've destroyed a car you've spent 10s of thousands building and countless late night/early mornings building.
Troubles at work, whether it be a jealous Co worker who is upset and resorts to school girl antics and spreads rumors, to a control freak micro managing boss. I have unique ways to deal with them, whether it's a harmless prank, or go above the boss and get them handled by upper management. But never once did it cross my mind to do something to end their life. Much less anyone elses...
But I don't dwell on things. I Move on. I can't understand what would posses someone to do something this evil. I can't understand what would cause someone to do many of the other evil things that have happened in the 30 years I've been alive, whether it's in the name of politics, whether it's in the name of religion, whether it's in the name of race, whether it's in the name of personal angst... I can't understand it. Again I'm not a shrink, and I am not compelled by emotions... I can't even understand people who become suicidal or be sympathetic to those who are... there is nothing on this earth worth terminating your life over. I could see if becoming a quadriplegic in a fatal accident and having to rely on others to be a vegetative pile of meat and bone...
Nor can I sympathize with drug users or hardcore alcoholics. I'll go to bars, I'll go to night clubs. I'll throw parties and bbqs... I'll have a few drinks. But to be drunk every single day every hour of the day or rely on a substance to alter reality to deal with something?
Everything I've been through thus far, has not once encouraged me to do something like this. The way I look at it, why would I commit such an atrocity being pro gun, to carry out something so vile, to push stricter laws and punish others for my disregard for human life? Why would I do something so evil and so vile to cause uproar to put rights up for debate? I can't think of one.
I can't think of one reason to go on a homicidal rampage. Not one. I can't think of any reason to commit suicide. Not one. I can't think of one reason to turn to drugs or alcohol to go day to day. Not one.
I appreciate your thoughtful response...but did any of this forums many gun "enthusiasts" ever really stop to think for a second...and I'm begging some of you to do this before throwing out the "liberal gun hater" response..really just try for once to look inward and examine your own psyches:
Maybe there really IS something sick about obsessing over guns to the extent too many people in this country do? Maybe that sickness that attracts people to the instrument of death sometimes escalates to a desire to actually use all of this armament for its intended purpose? I mean, guys on this forum regularly lament how they are basically begging for someone to try to break into their house so they can shoot them. This guy was amassing enough firepower to run his own militia.....for what purpose? Far beyond anything logical....it's either a fetish, or desire to actually kill a lot of people. Isn't that mental illness on its own?
Seriously, every other attack or crime, they have the surv video posted the same day showing the actions of the perp, hotels have cameras everywhere, especially in Vegas....?
I want to know, where are the casino tapes?? Casinos are known for having cameras everywhere, and yet no footage has been released of how he smuggled all of these large weapons up to his room?
Give it some time and wait for their courtesy. You are only Curious Joe Public, you aren't instrumental to the ongoing investigation and have no need to be privy to police information unless they are asking you for your help in the case.
Releasing information or evidence prematurely to the public can jeopardize an ongoing investigation and the police are not required to release any video footage to anyone except other authorities who are involved in the investigation.
When police release evidence and video footage to the general public they do it as a courtesy, not from necessity, unless they are asking the public to view videos and come forward with identification and further information that will help the police.
