I think yes and no on this.

There are some people that apply exactly to your statement.

There are others who link what they think about people to actions done in the past by others who look like me. In this case - it is not true racism, but judging me (for example) based on the past performance of others. So when they repeatedly see black males acting in a thug like manner, but do not see the black doctor or lawyer or engineer - that plays into the perception.

That is simplistic. That is like saying that doctors want sickness to exist or that police want crime to exists....so that they can earn an income from it.

We live in a capitalistic construct where it takes money to solve most problems. Hence, problems present opportunities to make money. Even if you were to volunteer to help people, it will COST YOU MONEY. If you feed the hungry, who pays for the food? If you pay for it from your own pocket, the number of poor will quickly result in you being among them. Hence, people often need donations, or payment in order to be able to help others. Some efforts cost nothing but your time....but again, time is money.
