only people that don't get their panties in a bunch ... he may have been testing the water. got his answer didn't he.
Um, why ever would he "test the waters" in such a way if that's really what his intention was? Seems a pretty stupid move to me. A new employee, still on probation, and yet he wants to test the waters? Not smart, if that's the case.

again, he goes on to find a different job, with different people. could be he wanted to see, what kind of people are they? you can not tell me every black person in america is offended at the sight of watermelon. come on now, that's just dumb.
I have left a job, because of personality conflicts ... If at anytime I feel uncomfortable around the people I have to spend a good part of my day with, I will leave and go find some place else to be ... end of story.

No one even suggested that black people are offended at the sight of watermelon. Maybe the details discussed are too nuanced for some of you.
This watermelon fireman dude sounds like an idiot or an insensitive jerk.
I didn't realize you could become a fire fighter so late in life -- the guy is 41....that's old. must be a second career -- or did it take him that long to get in. YIKES!.
Hmm, you think 41 is old? We don't know anything about this guy. He could have just retired from the military for all we know. Should people be turned down and denied new career opportunities just because they don't fit in the typical 18-25 demographics?
