These gang bangers are out there stealing cars at gunpoint, are felons in possession of firearms, and the liberal judges give them a slap on the wrist, offer them signature bail, and send them back on the street. Liberals are more concerned about writing more feelgood laws than enforcing existing laws and punishing criminals.

When this thug gets out, he's going to commit more crimes, possibly murder. The liberals will whine about it, but they only have themselves to blame for light sentencing.

Judge lowers sentence for man convicted of carjacking, shootout

The sentence for attempted murder should be the same as murder. Shootout with a cop, almost hitting a bystander, using an assault rifle mind you, stealing a car by gunpoint, and only 20 year sentence, probably off in 13 years? These are the types of men that get shot by police and you get all these rallies from ridiculous groups claiming he was a "good, misunderstood person" ... complete bullocks.

How are more gun laws restricting use by law abiding citizens going to prevent crimes like this? The solution here is proper sentencing to keep them off the street.

In 2015, nearly 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.3 That’s one percent of the 111 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.

That's just DWI not including regular fatalities from say, speeding, wreck less driving, inclement weather and loss of control, or a pile up on a highway/freeway.

Leading causes of death per CDC

Number of deaths for leading causes of death:
Heart disease: 633,842
Cancer: 595,930
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 155,041
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 146,571
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 140,323
Alzheimer’s disease: 110,561
Diabetes: 79,535
Influenza and Pneumonia: 57,062
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 49,959
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 44,193

Firearms per CDC

Number of deaths: 33,594
Of those deaths 2014 were suicide
(63.7%) and homicide (32.8%). .637x33,594= 21,400 deaths.

Homicide = 11,019. .328x33,594

Homicide, dying at the hands of another's actions.
Break those statistics down of deaths involving criminal enterprise. You know. Gang activity via turf war drugs, murders, and separate the columns of justified self defense shootings and actions by police.
Per bureau of justice report 2015
930 per year, or 1240 if assuming that nonreporting local agencies kill people at the same rate as reporting agencies.

So let's look at the numbers again
11,019 deaths minus 930= 10,089
11,019 deaths minus 1240= 9,779

Of the remaining 10,089 or of the 9,779 how many of these remaining deaths were committed by the hands of criminals, and how many were committed by the hands of a justified law abiding gun owner?

You are at more of a risk to be killed or hurt in a car accident than by a loon.

If the media had reported DWI events like they do shootings, would you be as scared or concerned about driving and willing to forfeit driving and have strict laws pertaining to driving?

This.

You can't tell me you're super serious about fixing unnecessary violence and death in our society and not go after the drivers. THIS needs to be fixed first.

I've worked in trauma centers my entire medical career. In several states. CARS are what you have to worry about. CARS. Forget death. You can get seriously maimed to the point you wish you were dead with far more frequency than is mentioned in the CDC stats. But no one does one damn thing about driving.

And then they want us to take them seriously about a situation that's statistically never going to happen to us or anyone we ever know.

1. They are not homogenous.
2. They do allow foreigners to immigrate.

1. They actually have many nationalities living there. Plus four languages German, French, Italian and Romansh. Divided into 26 cantons. Not really homogenous.

2. From WIkipedia - Switzerland
Quote:
As of 2012, resident foreigners made up 23.3% of the population, one of the largest proportions in the developed world.[153] Most of these (64%) were from European Union or EFTA countries.[154] Italians were the largest single group of foreigners, with 15.6% of total foreign population, followed closely by Germans (15.2%), immigrants from Portugal (12.7%), France (5.6%), Serbia (5.3%), Turkey (3.8%), Spain (3.7%), and Austria (2%). Immigrants from Sri Lanka, most of them former Tamil refugees, were the largest group among people of Asian origin (6.3%).[154]

Additionally, the figures from 2012 show that 34.7% of the permanent resident population aged 15 or over in Switzerland (around 2.33 million), had an immigrant background.

You know, I don't know.

That's a part of it for sure but really not that many shootings seem to be hate related. Most of your stuff is your normal criminal shootings. I'm sure there's hatred involved, but it's not systemic hatred. It's just your normal scumbag crimes be they gang-related, opportunistic, or what have you. Then you have your mass shootings. They're more fame than hate. There's something seriously wrong with it but it's not really hate. They don't care about the people they're shooting, just losers that want to be famous. And, well, we make them. Not that I agree with the white nationalists in this thread but they aren't generally out there shooting people.

which doesn't refute my argument one bit. I was replying to poster who claimed Switzerland is homogenous and doesn't allow immigration. Neither is true. Not only do the Swiss speak different languages (though majority speaks German) but there is a relatively large immigrant population.

Plus when talking about immigrant background in Switzerland, it's usually about the second, maybe third generation.
Out of US immigrants you mention, many (probably majority (?)) consider themselves American and go back more than just 2 or 3 generations.

The Swiss model involves mandatory military service, at which point your mental health is somewhat carefully screened. If we required the guys here, that want to talk about their 2nd A rights, to serve in the military or the NG as part of owning guns, the outcry would be deafening. It would be humorous to watch these guys backpeddle on actually being in a position to use the weapons as the 2nd prescribed the need for an armed populace for, though.

Comparing immigration in Switzerland to US is disingenuous.

How are these gangs and drug dealers getting their guns? What's been done to interfere with their gun sources?
