I don't see a problem with this. My experience is that the whole structure of Boy Scouts is so far superior to the structure of Girl Scouts, that I don't blame girls at all for wanting to join in BSA.

Disagree that this is "effed up". Girl troops are separate. All this does is give girls who want outdoor adventure, first aid and emergency prep training, and leadership experience the same opportunity boys have had. I would agree if this decision took anything away from my sons, but it doesn't. Allowing girls to benefit from the BSA program doesn't lessen their experience or what they have to do to advance.

The girls should work to improve their own organizations, not leech off the boys.

It’s a different organization with a different program. Some young women prefer the BSA’s focus and awards structure. As a long time BSA supporter and parent, I have no problem at all with the program’s expansion. The fact is that girls have been participating in BSA for decades without any drama. It’s just that those outside the organization, some of whom have axes to grind for reasons that may or may have anything to do with Scouts, are just now catching on.

The camp-outs will have a whole new dimension. Hopefully the girls will take the motto, "Be Prepared" very seriously.

For goodness sake, try to pay attention! Girls are segregated into their own troops after the completion of Cub Scouts in fifth grade during a ceremony called Crossover.

I'm going to be honest here and admit (as a female) to being VERY disappointed with the Girl Scouts. It was only all about crafts and domestic skills. That's NOT what I wanted from a "Scout" experience. I'm sorry, but I firmly believe the Girl Scouts shot themselves in the foot by being WAY to heavily focused on crafts and domestic skills. In fact, I quit the GS to join the Camp Fire Girls which were MUCH more aligned to the experience I wanted. As a CFG, I learned outdoor survival skills.
