Glad, schools have the option of bible-based social studies courses as opposed to social studies courses that indoctrinate children with Hollywood values.
I am a Christian, but the place for religious education is the home or the church, and I find it appalling that you think kids should be able to opt out of science.

Listen, I have no problem with Bible literacy courses being taught in schools and believe that only the irrational would. But it would all depend on how these courses were structured. Indeed, if the courses are structured as mere literacy/study vs. indoctrination courses, that is far different from courses where the Bible is being preached as the truth/right path in schools.
From one of the articles posted, the latter doesn't seem to apply, so I'm all ok with these courses:
Quote:
According to the Kentucky Department of Education website, the purpose of these courses is to "focus on the historical impact and literary style from texts of the Old Testament or New Testament era, including the Hebrew Scriptures."
Note, more fundamentally, these courses are electives, not requirements. This is no different from a Bible literacy course at a public university, which are certainly allowed by law.
I would expect that the OP would also be in favor of classes for the Quran and other religions, just an oversight.
Science is based on facts, religion is mostly based on belief.
