The Big Pharm Complex has poached key authors of drug legislation/ enforcement from the DEA.

Congress was complicit in approving legislation to protect distributors of Opioids. While the legislation was sponsored by a Republican, it was a bipartisan vote. Eric Holder opposed it. Obama signed it.

The bill's sponsor Marino (R Pa) was the chairman of Trump's state election campaign has been nominated by Trump to head the office of National Drug Control Policy. The nomination requires a simple majority of the Senate to fly.

Yeah, I posted a link to the article/60 minutes segment as the OP.

I am sure those DEA agents were paid handsomely, absolutely crazy that the people in charge of the DEA process and procedures end up trying to defeat the DEA. This has been kept very quiet for 5 years, Congressman Marino needs to go before a committee and explain the dire need for these changes.

Proof yet again that our Congress is owned by lobbyists and does not represent us.

Read the full article thanks for the link.

Strange no one seems to take these distributors to court for helping to kill 200,000 and making obscene profits.

Seems as though the Trump administration should be reconsidering this choice; Mr. Marino is highly unqualified to have anything at all to do with our national drug policy (if there really is any).

The 60 minutes segment was, in a word, unnerving.

And what a shame the courageous whistleblower is now out of a job. He should be named to the post that Marino has been chosen for. Another reason to not feel good about our government and how things are really done. We keep getting screwed and keep electing the same people over and over.

TERM LIMITS: One 6 year term in public office, then that's it for any public office ever. Take no benefits, same insurance that is foisted onto the American public, and OUTLAW paid and unpaid lobbyists - come on Trump, you promised to do that. Washington DC is a really a sesspool and the armpit of the US, sad to say!

Ultimately this falls on congress. As usual no one read the damn bill, if they had we wouldn't be in this position. Joe Manchin has called on trump to remove the nominee.

He is probably trying to redeem himself since his daughter was caught up in the epi-pen investigation. His family made millions from thatnow he wants to seem honest.

The President just announced, via a Tweet, that Mr. Marino has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Yes, I noted such in the DEA thread, but said thread is sinking rapidly.

My reading on this DEA law has been enlightening. Both chambers of Congress passed the bill by unanimous voice vote, and then Obama signed it into law. Yet, none (save for Marino) seems to have been aware of what was in the bill.

I do not expect a President to 'read' in full a bill sent for signature, but I do expect (especially in Obama's case) for the president to be fully aware of what is in the bill (that is what his staff is for).

No one comes out smelling like a rose in this situation. At least we are spared having Mr. Marino become the new drug czar, since he seems more interested in helping the drug industry reap profits, regardless of the cost to the public.
