'To me, the most striking and upsetting part of the film is not the anti-Semitism of the main speaker or even the violence of his storm-troopers,' Curry said.
'What bothers me more is the reaction of the crowd. Twenty-thousand New Yorkers who loved their kids and were probably nice to their neighbors, came home from work that day, dressed up in suits and skirts, and went out to cheer and laugh and sing as a speaker dehumanized people who would be murdered by the millions in the next few years."
What do you want us to do with this history lesson.
For anyone that thinks that the white nationalism that is rearing it's head since the arrival of Trump thinks it could never happen, history shows it absolutely could. That 20,000 showed up in New York City to applaud and demand white gentile rule while Hitler was building concentration camps. It happened here in our own country.

And yet nearly 80 years later with 200 million more people living in the U.S. and the ability to communicate and travel in a fraction of the time it took then about 5,000 to 7,000 white nationalists showed up in Charlottesville for a national protest.

i think its more like you havent learned from history yet. remember that was the last time the german-american bund was that large, or that active. the fact is that they pretty much went away after 1941, and while there are scattered remnants around the country, they are no where near what they were in 1939. war with germany in the 40s kind of killed the enthusiasm for such garbage.

Yes, when I was watching that film I wondered how many in that huge crowd, or their sons, ended up enlisting two or three years later, and died, fighting the Nazis.

not just sons, but daughters as well. if it were not for the women that joined the military, and did the support jobs, like testing and bringing aircraft to the men in the field(the womens air service pilots), and the women that did things like code breaking, administration, nursing, and many other things to let men get out on the front lines, the war might not have come out as it did.

And it should also demonstrate that the overwhelming majority of the descendants of the people who attended those events grew up and outgrew their prejudices.
I grew up and still live in a predominately-Germanic region -- "upstate" Pennsylvania (the place the oooh-so-Leftist chic like to describe as "Alabama sandwiched between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh". In the Twenties, the Ku Klux Klan held rallies -- complete with burning crosses, in fields and on river overlooks not far away. I had an unmarried great-aunt who, after getting her degree from what was in those times known as a "teachers college", taught in the New York City public school system (in an upwardly-mobile Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn) for many years -- and she had her stories to tell.
I had twelve aunts and uncles, all now gone, between both sides of the family; a few of them harbored some anti-Semitic leanings, but most couldn't care less. And I can't think of anyone among my twenty-plus cousins who's ever shown much attraction to them; most couldn't explain the difference between Reformed and Orthodox Judaism.
What our high-and-mighty, self-appointed Social Justice Nazis want to label "white nationalism" is, in the majority of instances. little more than a mild resentment against an elitist clique seeking to impose their personal dogma on all of us.

National Socialists haven't changed all that much.
No they haven't. The Democrat party, and the liberal, progressive movement are full of them.
